The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I would highly recommend for anyone into flight simming to watch Episode 13 Season 3 of Person of Interest, towards the end of this particular episode is something that should be appreciated by any simmer, it certainly tickled my funny bone.

Will try to upload that particular segment on my youtube channel in the near future perhaps.

get it on youtube :)

Finally..

After the house move, Broadband activation, DIY, room paint and social events, my 'Flight Deck' is finally back in order.

I tested my setup yesterday and had a few issues, but I think they're now resolved.

So I'm aiming to be back in the virtual skies on Thursday.:p

Excellent Blue! welcome back :)

Vuvuzela, Did you manage to sort your FPS issue? if not hopefully the news that I am posting the Track-ir today will make up for it a little!

Now that is impressive but ouch... £200, 000!

Finally bought the PMDG 737NGX after holding off long enough (was always concerned about poor performance and fps) but wow I'm impressed. Performance is much better than the iFly 737NG and the PMDG 747.

Think I'll be getting lost deep in the documentation.

Better late than never. Can't see myself flying anything else other than this and the Dash.

Not sure what I'm doing and have a fairly decent PC but I find it nearly impossible to get 60FPS.

Max out FSX and it feels like 20fps, I tried tweaks, lowering settings but nothing. Using FlightFX with a SweetFX preset however, has not lowered the FPS, but it looks better. What can I do?

FPS is FSX is mainly about max core CPU speeds. Even at 4.8Ghz I can promise to find scenery/addons that will get your frame rates down to sub 20 if not sub 10 FPS. BTW a shift-Z or two will display the frame rates for you. A steady 20 fps is perfectly usable in FSX were as it wasn't really in FS9

Hmm, best to look into a K CPU then? I mean it's playable and all, but controlling the planes with low FPS is quite a challenge.

Its going to be almost impossible to get 60FPS in the virtual cockpit in anything but a vanilla FSX install.

The best thing to do if you have an nvidia graphics card is use full screen and set the V-sync in Nvidia Inspector to 1/2 refresh rate.

This will lock the frames at 30fps. At the same time change the FPS slider from within FSX to 30fps.

Yep its an amazing aircraft :) not interested and coming flying online with us?

I will be posting a script at the weekend which will calculate and set the V-speed bugs in the Majestic Q400. I do already have one, but have just received a lot of information from Majestic which will allow me to set v-speeds and landing speeds easily.

I must say that they were very open and accommodating to my questions and provide truly excellent support :)

I would have thought that you could get a reasonable FSX experience with your setup.
Do you have FSX installed on the same drive as your OS?
Have you defragged the drive after the installation?
Are you running any 3rd party scenery if so what?
There are so many things that can affect the performance
There are many tweaks to the config file that can improve things dramatically and trying to run FSX with all the sliders maxed out is nigh on impossible even for those with the highest end computers.
I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules posting these links but try some of this (in no particular order)

For anyone still sitting on the fence regarding Prepar3D v2 - a little update.

Lockheed Martin are finalizing the anticipated 2.1 patch with expected release within the next few days.

The list of fixes and improvements on the FSX engine are looking very impressive :D

http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=4373

They are also working directly with Saitek to improve hardware compatibility, meaning we wont have to use SPAD in future for Saitek panels.

Also working directly with Nvidia to implement Shadowplay and 3D VISION <----- very exited about this one!

Flight simulation with 3D vision and/or Occulus Rift support would be amazing! Lockheed team have already confirmed they are also working with Occulus Rift developers so we should see support for that when its launched.

Good times!

Wow, they have fixed microstutters!? that could be ground breaking.

Im going to set up a 2nd boot drive I think with P3d on it so I can evaluate it. FSX is dying so we need to go somewhere :(

Definitely at some stage. Never ventured into flying online with live atc but would love to have a go at some point.

Very good news and great to see LM supporting their product so well. The update list appears to be pretty extensive from that list but I think I'll be sticking with fsx for the time being. Had P3D v2 for the best part of a month when it was released and it has a good number of improvements over fsx particularly visually and sometimes performance but my major issues was memory and virtual address space usage! It was terrible and much worse than fsx with a comparable install. Any sort of cloud coverage more an a very light scattering would hit fps massively and very quickly give you an oom error.

Unfortunately installing the PMDG NGX seems to have corrupted my fscaptain.dll and now giving me errors on startup. Tried reinstalling it several times but I may end up having to do a full reinstall of fsx! (Might actually take the opportunity to do a full Windows 8.1 reinstall and have a nice streamlined install of fsx).

Landing at EGLC in pretty miserable weather. Gotta love that steep glideslope!

After all these weeks, I ventured back onto Vatsim yesterday.

Needless to say it didn't go to plan.

After getting my clearance in the Airbus at Bristol, I did my flight control checks only to find my rudder and brakes weren't working.

I unplugged my Saitek Rudder pedals and plugged them back in again and FSUIPC confirmed they had a mind of their own.

After plenty of faff, I got things working but then it was time to log off. :(

Anyway, things should be 100% from here onwards.
