The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Love that first shot of the constellation, great angle.

AFAIK, there is no freeware scenery (apart from airports, ie UK2000 airports are free to try I think) that is available for the UK. At least not in the photoreal imagery area, Horizon Simulations handles most of photoreal coverage of the UK but their package for the entire UK is indeed, pricey. Whereas, NL2000v4 & Blue Sky Scenery is high quality imagery for Holland and parts of the US, is free and very good quality. The cheapest alternative would be to get something like UTX/GEX Europe but that is not real imagery more like an enhanced version of default FSX scenery with more accurate city/road & river placements.

IMO, the only payware that is a simply must have for FSX is REX2.0 Overdrive, plain and simple, it worth every penny. Anything else is totally up to you and your budget.

Check this thread for more links/info on freeware stuff.

Soya - great shots as always dude!

Please tell me where I can get that Bronco? :D

Thanks!

Thanks, the Bronco X is from Aerosoft, a wonderful model, extremely well detailed, as you can tell.

Thank you very much for the info and compliment!

Indeed my search for UK terrain proved fruitless, though I have found some fairly decent airports. I'll look into REX and the NL2k and blue Sky scenery, thanks for the tip.

I bought myself the Accu-sim P40, and i'm enjoying it, despite the steep-ish learning curve. Do you have any experience with it?

Instead of the UK bought scenery, take a look at this:-

http://www.edtruthan.com/tileproxy/tutorial/

I've used it and have got some good results, but haven't persevered with it too much. It could be a good option for you? It took about an hour to download, install and setup.

I have REX and it's brilliant although Aivlasoft's EFB to me was the missing piece of my IFR flying puzzle. Expensive, but it answered lots of questions I had on flying IFR.

I have the UK2000 VFR aiports, Edinburgh, Heathrow, Gatwick and Bristol.

That looks fascinating. Will definitely dedicate more time to it at some point this week. Thanks.

Just some testing shots while tweaking. Got things set up for performance atm and I'm currently getting around 40-60fps with only REX and Overdrive installed. I'll start tweaking for visuals this week and find something I'm happy with.

Just bought a fantastic add on plane, A320 Jetliner by just flight.

Its from the f-lite range, its a very easy to learn plane even more so than the cls 747 I own. Still enough complexity to satisfy the hardcore but you don't need to bury your head in a tome of a manual to pilot this one. Virtual cockpit in this bird is very well done and the exterior is excellent.

Only niggle is there are only 4 liveries with the base package, and you have to fork out about £5 each for optional livery packages. Sorry but economizing liveries? Just flight get your act together oh my.

Would easily reccomend to everyone, just don't give in and fork out for the liveries.

Thanks for the heads up on this, bought it yesterday and had a go last night. I was looking for a plane that didn’t need a ton of reading. Plus they have a 20% special at the moment.

I did the tutorial from the manual, everything went well but couldn’t land it lol :p As I was coming into Zurich, I don’t think I lined up enough with the runway. I was too left, so I didn’t pick up the localiser and the plane just flew straight past it. I thought the MDCU would direct me futher out so I could line up better with it. I had to change the heading quite a bit to try line up. Next time I will fly out a bit more and line up with the runway further out. Practise makes perfect I guess.

I haven’t downloaded the patches yet but are there are a few bugs with the MDCU?

There is a very old thread on OCUK forums somewhere with a tutorial on ILS landings in FSX.

Some quick pointers for FSX.
1. If you don't know already, the charts at http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=6&Itemid=13.html are excellent.
2. There is an intercept height. At EGGD RW27, it's 2500 ft from 8 NM out. So be there or lower. Press 'b' to set your alt pressure.
3. You can to disect the localiser - with 'app' engaged, on a disect, the plane should take over and then you know fo' sure you've captured it. So do a long 'downwind' and then cut back in a shallow diagional, towards the the localiser.
4. Put the visual runway paths on - somewhere in the menus - so you can see what path the aircraft should be flying.
5. Set the 'course / crs' to the runway heading. BUT in some instances, it may be 089 for a RW of 090.
6. In the ATR72, you need to be in V/L mode before pressing 'APP'.
7. If you can, listen to your Outer, Middle and Inner markers to know things are good.
8. Flaps, speedbrake, autobrake set
9. Land

Depending on the aircraft and runway, there's different catagories of landing.
But a good indicator of your progress is to switch off autopilot 500ft above, then 1000ft above.

This is a rough guide, so I'm sure it could be improved. Let us know how you're doing.

thanks, going to give it another try tonight.

Chaps, I mentioned this thread a while back and it is certainly worth a look for anyone using nvidia cards.

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/369500-adaptive-vsync-30fps-new-levels-of-smoothness-in-fs9x/

The most noticeable occurrence of microstutters for me was in the NGX looking out of the wing view. With the 'tweak' applied I now get silky smooth performance on this particular view. It seems that as long as the FPS stay above 30 then the fix is useful. If frames drop below 30 then microstutters can still occur.

I tried earlier at some heavy addon scenery airports and it didn't make much difference but I'm cruising along now at 2500 in the NGX and it is silky! Well worth a try and I'd be interested to hear how other people get on.

My other tweaks are RejectThreshold, Affinity set to 14, 4096 TML, no VSync set in fsx.cfg.

Just bought another fantastic add on plane, flying club archer iii.

Just a heads up, they're selling fsx dlc on greenmangaming now, they're not priced all that competetively but another source of purchasing dlc. Seems to be priced equal to other online sources.

They seem to be focusing on dlc that doesn't need a lot of mastering to enjoy - DC 3 Legends, A320 Jetliner, Archer III and Comet Jetliner. Also focusing on dlc with a high level of quality it seems.

The Archer III is good for short flights and for sight seeing. Its a very responsive plane so quite easy to chase the needles but it flies itself after correctly setting the trim. Not a very sporty plane however.

Taxiing, yes taxiing is very fun with this plane as it responds so quickly to input on the ground.

Exterior is not the best I've seen, virtual cockpit is great and also a excellent stab at a good 2d cockpit if thats your thing. This plane is all about the feel!
