Tutorial on debranding your Xperia arc

1) Switch on the debugging option on your Xperia arc. Go to Menu –> Settings –> Applications –> Development –> Tick ‘USB debugging’

Also tick ‘Unknown sources’ under Menu –> Settings –> Applications

2) Download the latest version of FlashTool.

3) Extract the downloaded FlashTool file to a folder of your choice. Press ‘Parcourir’ to choose the folder then press ‘Extraire’ to extract the files.

4) Download the Xperia arc firmware from above.

5) Unzip the firmware to reveal the ‘FTF’ file. Place this file in the Flashtool/firmwares folder.

6) Open the ‘X10FlashTool’ application in the FlashTool folder. Click ‘Flash’.

7) You should now see the firmware selected as shown below. Click ‘OK’.

8 ) You will then see the screen below.

9) Turn your phone off. Whilst holding the back button on your handset, connect your phone via USB.

10) Follow the on-screen instructions to flash your phone to generic firmware. Once complete, your Xperia arc should now be unbranded.

Mainly the aesthetics of the device, plus the improved camera and screen. :D

Ironically I had a Desire HD and found it a bit on the large side well a bit too big to use one handed most of the time and the battery was shocking. Even though this is a 4.2" screen its no bigger then a X10.

I am not 100% sold on the dual core solution because quad cores are also now in the pipe line and Android as it stands at the moment is not fully optimized MP.

Meh... The X10 wasn't rubbish but I did have a lot of room for improvement. I was waiting for HTC to bring something new to the table but they didn't.

All the latest video's I have seen on the Arc its a pretty good phone. I know its not all singing all dancing but to be honest who needs all that. Oh and its a bit cheaper then the rest! ;)

They have learn from the mistakes of the X10. As its a completely stock android and the SE extras are simply applications now, so its very speedy.

What I meant was they have not made any changes to the OS, like they done with the X10. That was one of the underlying problems with why the 2.1 update took so long to come to light. Now that problem is addressed once Google releases a new Android update it shouldn't take SE long to bring it to market.

Let see what happens with the new Xperia range then. :)

However, you pay your money you make your choices.

That's not so much of a problem with A2SD though. However, I have read so many different values quoted 320, 512 & 1GB.

It also depends if that's space to install apps or its the total ROM size. Ahh well...... lol

However, I only have around 25 installed on my phone at the mo and thats only using 100Mb. Id depends how many you want to install I guess. :p

The ARC has 512Mb RAM though, the Neo has 380Mb Ram :confused:
