Nah I wasn't whinging was just questioning whether what the actual goal of the launch was long term, you told the other guy it wasn't in Orbit so had me confused.

Some of the media have made a basic mistake in calling the Falcon Heavy,the most powerful rocket since the Saturn V. Its the most powerful rocket since Energia AFAIK.

I think the correct quote is it's the most powerful rocket in operation today.

What is scientific purpose of launching a car into space? It is useless junk, a pr strunt and marketing for his company. It's great he has a rocket that can send 6 tonnes into space, but not that he sent junk hurtling through space.

It is there for an engineering reason - they needed a test load. So *something* would have gone up, the fact it is a Tesla Car is a nice PR benefit.

Yep. We just need Reaction Engines SABRE to work and get into a launch vehicle and we are looking at a new chapter in spaceflight!!

Yea, the last I read about that was it was on target. Another bit of brilliant engineering to come from the UK as well.

The scientific purpose is certifying the Falcon Heavy.
Would you have preferred a lump of steel and concrete instead? They needed a test payload and Musk has style and a damn good PR eye.

Even Starman had one hand on the wheel and one elbow out the window.

I'm just waiting for the picture of the Tesla with the Earth as a small ball, it's images like that which make you release that we live on a blue spec in the middle of no where..... It's really quiet eye opening.
