So researchers suspected that Mars once had (and still does) vast reservoirs of water under the surface and now we have some evidence to back up this theory.

They estimate it has more water below the mantle than Earth does and this is great news especially for future colonies on the planet. It also does indeed open up the question about Mars in the past, whether it did have life on it before the atmosphere was wiped away and could there be life still there under the surface.

Still good to see Opportunity is alive and sending back these stunning images.

This full-circle scene combines 817 images taken by the panoramic camera (Pancam) on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity. It shows the terrain that surrounded the rover while it was stationary for four months of work during its most recent Martian winter.
