Will congress ever give nasa a clear target, this is what nasa is in desperate need of a big goal, with clear targets and enough funding to reach what ever goal is decided.

They should still just scrap SLS.

House Republican leaders want to push for outposts on the moon and Mars — and they want to push NASA's plan to snare an asteroid into the dustbin, according to a discussion draft of their space spending plan.
"It is the policy of the United States that the development of capabilities and technologies necessary for human missions to lunar orbit, the surface of the moon, the surface of Mars, and beyond shall be the goals of the administration's human space flight program," the GOP version of the NASA authorization bill states.
One of the goals would be "to develop a sustained human presence on the moon and Mars," according to the draft, which is expected to come under discussion at a House Science space subcommittee hearing on Wednesday. NBC News received a copy of the draft in advance — as did several other media outlets, including Politico and Space News.

Or can we have an IMB(international Moon Base), with different countries supplying different things, it's worked really well for ISS. Nasa is already doing Orion capsule, ESA is doing the Service Modual, pay space X for the launcher, get other countries to fulfill other aspects.

In Soviet russia self destruct button for rocket blows you up....

You can see a red liquid or gas starts venting from one of the boosters shortly after launch and this seems to effect the thrust balance and causes it flip over.

An expensive failure and not the only one recently...

Ouch that's a mess up.
How come no self destruct?

Shame that they didn't have a self-distruct button to finish it off.

From what i understand they don't have self destruct since they don't launch near any population centres. Also by self destructing in the air you're just spreading the toxic propellants over a greater area. They usually cut off the stage, so the question should be why didn't that happen.

Liquid fueled rockets don't tend to have self destruct as they will just shut off the engines if it goes wrong and they tend to disintegrate rapidly. Solid rockets on the other hand will continue at full thrust even if there is a problem so tend to have self destruct systems to split them in half as they would otherwise just fly full speed in any direction.

This is a good video of the crash, very loud explosion at the end.
