***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Just read that a dlss 3.0 mod has been released sending frame rates sky high for Nvidia cards .

Anyone tried it yet?

You get your ship and then its just used as fast travelling device aside from some scripted minigames that don't matter. Then in the current time the devs have broken the quick travel system so that you don't even need to get into to your ship, you quick travel using a map and pretend your ship did it.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid flying in the ship as much as possible as it's really not very good lol, you can basically just use the map - select where you want to go, press x to jump or travel there.

I get that the ships and flying side of things were never going to be "proper" as it would be too much for most people, but I really think they could have done a better job with it,

This not the life changing - game of the decade, book a week off work and not leave your gaming chair while you take a dump where you sit. Some of you was making it out to be on the run up to beta launch?

Todd will be Todd :D and the FOMO crew will pre order like muppets. Good game guys.

Despite this low quality bait, I think you will find a lot of people are enjoying it :)
Correct on booking time off work though, **** doing that for ANY game.

I've played a few hours now, I know it's supposed to get better later but I'm starting to loose interest already.

The gunplay and AI is terrible, I appreciate it's more of an explorer game but I was hoping the shooting bit would have been much better.
Controlling the ships with a mouse an keyboard feels sluggish, using a pad is much better but having to swap between them is a pain.

Performance is a little meh but at least it's not completely broken like some games have been lately.

I'm thinking this will be a 7/10 game, certainly nowhere near being a GOTY contender but I hope to stick with it and maybe it will grow on me a bit more later.

Well this has helped to get better/truer blacks as well as hdr looking like it is somewhat working, probably won't be as good as native hdr but it is sure as hell a damn sight better, only thing is with removing the horrible filters, it now makes the game show its age more in terms of poor textures.

Notice some weird black artifact at the edge of the screen when in that town but worth it just to get the better overall colours.

To counter some of the misinformation spread by many on FSR 2 in Starfield:

FSR2 in the game, does increase FPS when used correctly. Set dynamic rendering to off, set your render scale and your sharpening levels to your desired level and you will be using FSR 2 as an upscaler.

FSR works well with my 4080 and I see no need to download a DLSS mod with these settings. For reference I have included the FSR render scales for each quality setting.

I finally settled on 80% render scale and no sharpening at all. This results in image quality as good as native (some things better some slightly worse) unless you pixel peep and gives about a 20% FPS boost at 4K. I also do not see any excessive shimmering or aliasing. This is enough to keep my FPS at 60+ FPS at 4K, or well inside my monitor Freesync range. Setting 67% render scale gives about 40% performance increase (from 50 to 70 FPS)

Ultra Quality1.3x (77% output resolution)2954×1662
Quality1.5x (67% output resolution)2560×1440
Balanced1.7x (59% output resolution)2259×1270
Performance2.0x (50% output resolution)1920×1080

Seems a bit silly to not use dlss when you can given it does give better IQ and ever so slightly better perf........

Most fun I’ve had in a game for years, but it is a slow burn, probably too slow for a lot of people.

I'm the same, the miss so much when learning the game in the opening couple of hours, that annoys me so I restart and do it properly.

Glad it's not just me

Yeah plus decided I'm going to do a 'no junk' or stealing playthrough as I think stealing makes some things too easy.

I seem to have missed several key tutorials along the way. Plus a few that don’t appear until after you need them. I finally got the planet scanning tutorial, that would have been useful several hours ago :p
