***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

If you had a bit of actual experience working on this kind of tech, you'd realise how amusing 'just do this' 'just do that' is.

For every thing you 'just do', another thing has to be 'just not done'.... and when the thing you want to do is years of work, the things you don't do as a result are equally large.

As in sat here playing Starfield I'm marvelling at all the stuff they HAVE done. Occasional loading screens are pretty minor compared to depth of experience on offer here that aren't on offer from anywhere else.
Well said.

I am level 3. Just killed a level 10 Alien creature on create at the pipeline. Took ages with the laser, but felt great :D
haha I got that thing as well. Ended up using the Cutter and boosting over it's head a lot. :D

edit: I found one as I randomly explored, not part of any mission. I'd gone looking for it based off reports etc. read in the research outpost.

I'm almost finished exploring Atlantis city. Only up to two books that provide permanent buffs, one of the Constellation guides and Nova Galactic Manuals.

Going to start cracking on with the main quest soon and focus on it a bit I think.

Anyone refunding due to no DLSS is just a very silly person IMHO. The FSR implementation that EVERYBODY can use is fine in this release as long as you use it right(turn off dynamic scaling) and if that is not good enough for the pixel peeping monkeys of the PCMR jungle then mods are there to solve your problem. There are many other things that needs some addressing long before DLSS should even be mentioned. And now that we are on the subject, where are all you people demanding DLSS when your nvidia sponsered titles ship without FSR or XeSS support? That is somehow fine funny enough. Standards are good, double standard twice as good it seems.

I do find it bizarre that Bethesda (of all studios) is getting their visuals hard-critiqued for Starfield - has nobody actually played Bethesda games before? They were *all* ugly and dated in comparison to what was considered 'state-of-the-art' at the time - visuals have never been the reason to play these games, it's the opportunity to immerse yourself in a world in a way that few other games do.

Would I like Bethesda to have cutting-edge visuals? Of course - but Todd Howard's never been shy about stating the Creation Engine is the best way for them to tell the stories they tell. Even so, I think Starfield is a giant leap (geddit?) beyond Fallout 4/76 and much though it'd be nice if it was a prettier game (mostly lighting/rendering tech), the actual assets are very well designed and IMO really capture the 'NASA-punk' thing they were going for.
Yes, we shouldn't expect much from Bethesda. Just for them to take our money and modders to do the rest (if possible, to tax that too).

It was a fair question but your only response was baseless sarcasm. Says it all

Sorry, to answer more to the point, perhaps you shouldn't take what 'lots of people' say literally i.e., assuming 'Fallout in space' meant that all the features in Fallout would therefore be in this game. I'm sorry to say there are also no vaults, pipboys, or radio stations playing 50s music. Hope this helps.

But it's still annoying.

An independent modder has got dlss 2.0 and dlss 3.0 frame gen working in days.

It's clear it would have taken hardly any work for them to include it so it's just marketing ****.

More importantly - no VATS. :(

Apparently the problem is people like us just aren’t capable of seeing how much better DLSS actually is. It’s all about the image stability you know.

The fact I had to switch multiple times between both before finally finding one area DLSS won is irrelevant. I must be nuts not wanting to refund a game because one ticker tape on a security hut is blurred using FSR at 4K quality.

3hrs in and I think this game is going to take all my playing time up now. Just means I think I will cancel my FO76 monthly sub for a few months.

Game plays well on my 3700X with 3070ti, mostly high settings at 1440p.

Maybe @mrk is taking a page out of 4K8K's book? :p

Yep. I used the cutter on him. Was easy, just took a while as it had a lot of HP.

The first mission the vanguard give you?

Nah, just randomly exploring Kreet.

I am almost level 5 now. My plan is fully exploring Kreet before taking off. Just finished the bounty mission (given by a random lady while exploring) and got 3000 creds :D

Even easy stuff they're not doing it, so more complex mechanics will be rocket science for them.

Don't forget that you're blacks are also not vantablack ;)

Currently going through the History exhibit in UC orientation area in Atlantis. Think they've done a good job summarising the history of the verse and the factions. At least form the UC perspective.

edit: got this a few hours ago that I chuckled over. I could SO easily have done more before getting to the main story, even just on the first planet.

We’re there as many complaints… or indeed any when BG3 (a Nvidia sponsored game) released with FSR1 instead of 2? AMD have already said they did not stop Bethesda implementing DLSS.

And as much as I knock Star Citizen.....it's a great example of what happens when you do 'just do' all those things...... you end up being still in development after 13 years! All the things take all the time!

The reason games don't have all the things in them, for every title, is not that the people working on it are too dense to 'just do it', it's because people with decades of experience have made difficult decisions about what is most important to do with the time and resources available in order to get a game launched and into people's hands.
