***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Realised that my video from earlier wasn't actually captured in hdr or uploaded in hdr :o So you will get those blown out highlights etc. tried capturing on phone camera so obviously won't show it very well especially with getting the contrast right but shows you just how much better the game can look, may not be perfect but it is a damn sight better than the default setup. Again, I've only seen reports that the hdr fix/improvement work with gamepass version though

Not spoilers, just putting in spoiler tags as big photos:

We’re there as many complaints… or indeed any when BG3 (a Nvidia sponsored game) released with FSR1 instead of 2? AMD have already said they did not stop Bethesda implementing DLSS.

When they were first asked, they didn't give an answer and dodged the question, it's only after hub, gamer nexus etc. called it out then a week or so later they give a direct answer..... Funny timing that after all the damage done eh.

I am already sucked in, too busy enjoying the game now and forgot about the blacks, HDR and all that.

Sure I am annoyed they are not there, but if you are enjoying the game those things easily get forget about as you get sucked in :D

Happens to me when revising old games like Deus Ex. At first the graphics even modded look crap. After a while I am no longer bothered. Sign of a good game if you ask me.

I'm almost finished exploring Atlantis city. Only up to two books that provide permanent buffs,one of the Constellation guides and Nova Galactic Manuals.

Going to start cracking on with the main quest soon and focus on it a bit I think.

I’ve just landed here for the first time.

And as much as I knock Star Citizen.....it's a great example of what happens when you do 'just do' all those things...... you end up being still in development after 13 years! All the things take all the time!

The reason games don't have all the things in them, for every title, is not that the people working on it are too dense to 'just do it', it's because people with decades of experience have made difficult decisions about what is most important to do with the time and resources available in order to get a game launched and into people's hands.
That and the people with far less experience, the management ( :D ) made a decision on it.

Ooh. Nice. I need to mod it up like you soon. Maybe once I get off Kreet though. Too busy enjoying it to mod right now :)

@TNA will lol at this no doubt but... Arrrrgh! Not a single game release the last 18 months where I have not come across shadow pop-in :/

wX4SIPE.gif

And now that it's been seen, I notice it on any shadows now as I walk up to stuff!

Also, those using the DLSS mod, check the StarfieldUpscaler.ini file to change the toggles and also see what the Preset modes refer to, the default was set to Preset F, but I think D is more relevant as it's designed for image stability.:

Code:
[Settings]
mEnableUpscaler = true

#0 = DLSS, 1 = FSR2, 2 = XeSS, 3 = DLAA(equal to DLSS Native,reserved for compatibility)
mUpscaleType = 1

#Enable the sharpening or not
mSharpening = true
mSharpness = 0.700000

#0 = Default, use the default preset for corresponding quality level
#1 = Preset A (intended for Perf/Balanced/Quality modes):
# *An older variant best suited to combat ghosting for elements with missing inputs (such as motion vectors)
#
#2 = Preset B (intended for Ultra Perf mode):
# *Similar to Preset A but for Ultra Performance mode
#
#3 = Preset C (intended for Perf/Balanced/Quality modes):
# *Preset which generally favors current frame information. Generally well-suited for fastpaced game content
#
#4 = Preset D (intended for Perf/Balanced/Quality modes):
# *The default preset for Perf/Balanced/Quality mode. Generally favors image stability
#
#5 = Preset E (Unused)
#
#6 = Preset F (intended for Ultra Perf/DLAA modes):
# *The default preset for Ultra Perf and DLAA modes.
#
mDLSSPreset = 6

[Hotkeys]

#611 = RightCtrl, find other keycode in imgui repo
#https://oprypin.github.io/crystal-imgui/ImGui/ImGuiKey.html
mToggleDLSS = 611

#520 = End, find other keycode in imgui repo
#https://oprypin.github.io/crystal-imgui/ImGui/ImGuiKey.html
mToggleMenu = 520

Edit*
Realised the ini was not calling DLSS but instead FSR, which explains why I wasn't seeing much of an fps change with it on or off. C Hanged the value to 0 which refers to DLSS from the default 1.

Shadow casting lights are CPU heavy so they LOD the crap out of cast shadows.

Okay so the starting cave looks like crap, when you get into the ship it no longer looks washed out.

I think preset F is for 100% res so enables DLAA only. Preset D is what you should use. I use 67% res with it which makes it render at 3840x2160. I'm also using DLSS 3.5, turning it off and on seems to give a few fps (around 3 to 7) but there's not much in it, I did notice a lot of sparkling from puddles in caves (happens in FSR too) but it's really jarring and doesn't seem to make sense.

That neutral LUT seemed to help things a little bit.

My special edition arrived from game

Bad news is they are using the game's official brown carton only to ship. Thus mine had taken some impact damage writing off the corner & side of the outer card display box.

They are also unsealing the sealed carton to insert the dispatch note rather than put into a new shipping box.

So if you are buying as a collector who wants sealed or undamaged packaging, this isn't the route for you
Should have used ShopTo tbh. Never going anywhere else. Been using them for years, always a day ahead of most too. Both my sets arrived perfect.

Think I'm with TNA on this, whilst the mods etc may make it look better, I'm over it now.

I am still going to add it. Only two mods by the looks of it so won't take too long. It does look better. But yeah, not a must to enjoy the game :)

I think the issues it will cause later potentially and glitches will be more annoying than anything I've encountered thus far. Probably something I'll do when the mods are more mature.

Beth really did miss a trick with not having a correct colour palette for this game. Also, in some places the game can look great but other times, it just looks downright poor, like PS 3 textures.

That's because PS3/4/5 can't handle textures with weak hardware in a plastic box
