***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

OK, still level 8. I think 19 locations is enough. Any more will be in the distant corners or the map and probably not be a huge deal. Can revisit later maybe.

Got back to the ship and took all my gear back. My mass is 1294

That should fetch a good sum when I can sell it :D

Mmm ok first venture into the Starfield and I’ve had 4 crash to desktops now and can’t progress any further

it happens right at the start just after character selection , I’m in a load out room with Lin who is escorting me to meet some arrivals , every time she goes through the plastic room separators and I follow it freezes and CTD .

Not my rig , 7900XTX and a 7800x3d .

Amy ideas ?

FSR turned off? This seems to crash the game for some on AMD cards, which is kind of a slap to the testicles given it's an AMD game :p

Finally made it to New Atlantis :D

Only took 6 hours

Careful not to get burn out before you get to the good stuff, this is why I am consciously not doing my usual loot every locker etc etc and go off on every new activity/side quest.

Digital Foundry seems to like the game:

So, what about the game in general? Starfield is a Bethesda RPG at its core - as you'd expect. In practice, it feels like a perfect blend of something like Skyrim or Fallout combined with the original Mass Effect. It's driven by a huge selection of interesting and often unexpected quests. Land on an empty planet and you may end up stumbling on events that lead to entire quest lines. Breaking up the game world into planets also means increased variation in the types of environments you'll play in - taking a mission on a rocky planet feels very different from infiltrating a base, for instance.

I've often taken issue with open world games and the endless amount of traversal they involve but weirdly enough, Starfield's segmentation (and yes, its loading) addresses this issue and it means you spend more time doing more interesting things instead. That's not to say you can't go off and explore if you want, but simply running across a landscape over and over again isn't the primary goal.

There's a lot more to discuss about Starfield and the Digital Foundry team are likely to get together to film a DF Direct Special on the game, along with some initial thoughts on the PC version while Alex Battaglia works on the full tech breakdown. We've also had the game working on the AMD 4800S Desktop kit, built around the Xbox Series X CPU. The complexity of the game and the corresponding CPU burden suggest that a consistent 30fps target was the right approach, for launch at least, but perhaps the headroom is there for some kind of performance mode, at least designed to work with VRR displays... and I wouldn't be surprised if this were added at a later date.

As I expected the 30FPS cap on consoles is down to the CPUs they use.

Spent ages collecting all this stuff and now spending ages looking for a place to sell it. Sold 10K worth so far but got loads more to sell, but stores run out of credits

Hopefully more than 2 stores in New Atlantis.

They need to have a Space Preston Garvey and Space Minutemen so you can build more settlements. Then you won't have any problems with too much junk!

I've quickly realised that hoarding loot to sell is not a productive use of time in this game. I just retain ammo and med kits etc, also any high level/interesting weapons/armour loot to sift through for my own use. The money you can gather from side missions far surpasses what you can gather from loot by orders of magnitude. I gained over 30000cr from the last side mission by black mailing the guy that sent me on the mission in the first place.

I just wondered how it can be called Fallout in space when it doesn't even have gore and dismemberment, pretty key features of the franchise. You're clearly very confused thinking that is associated with the absence of pip boys and what not, so no need for apologies.

Ah so you deem gore and dismemberment as a 'key feature' of the Fallout franchise, I understand your confusion now. The issue is nobody else thinking it is when drawing comparisons.
It has also been called 'Skyrim in space' (by no other than Todd himself) despite seemingly having a lack of bows and arrows, and dragons.

Quite a few more and lots more easily accessible in other places if you follow a few NA early quests.

My go to places that are close to the landing bay are:
Mars (2 vendors opposite each other)
The Den

I’m sure I’ll discover others that are near landing bays and that carry lots of credits in due course. NA they are all too far apart.
