***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Considered a restart, but when I went to pick the perks and traits what I ended up with was barely any different. Won’t get many hours in this week, but nice to kick back after work.

I don't know where some of you got the info that I wasn't enjoying the game. I am playing it under the same conditions as I did with Cyberpunk at launch, appreciating the good bits, but observing and sharing the bad bits, both games had a lot of bad bits to post about whether GIFs, screenshots or otherwise :p

All I've said so far is that I would not have paid £65 for premium had I known that the PC version was so lacking of PC centric mechanics/features and technologies that other games ship with as standard! I think it's a fair cop at £25, but not beta test and pay for the privilege! At least Cyberpunk didn't go down the premium route and had more comedy to post :cry:

At least with Cyberpunk V actually talks, in this it's just outbound text to click which is less immersive lol. Still, the weapon sounds are amazing in this and the way they change pitch and impact depending on where you are in the area is impressive. If you have hifi speakers on your PC then definitely make use of the audio fidelity this game offers for audio. It one-ups Cyberpunk in that area for sure.

As for the sharpening, I see no difference adjusting the in-game sharpening values when DLSS is being used, I also see no real difference settings a DLSS sharpening value outside of the 0.7 in the upscaler ini file. I tried 1.0 and saw no difference, for example. If there is a difference then I wasn't seeing it at 200% zoom looking at the screenshots afterwards in the one indoor scene with computer keyboards and screens in the BG.

I want to disagree here, one of my peeves with Fallout 4 was the voiced protag - I have always liked that In Fallout (before 4) and Elder Scrolls the main protag was silent as I found it more immersive me being able to hear how they sounded/reacted in my head.

Oh tombstone?

How are you enjoying the game mate. How far you got? :p
So far as the Beige turd tinted horrible colours.

Its honestly not my type of game mate, but since I got it for free with my AMD 7950X3D, felt duty obliged to give it a go ... gave it a good hour I guess, did nothing for me.

Hope you are having fun.

I got caught up in an epic battle in a side quest exploring the Altair system and its outpost Altair II. The Spacers were causing a ruckus so they had to be shown their place :p

Anyways, report on the 13GB texture pack? It's 17.7GB extracted :eek: - The Textures folder in my My Games folder is now 20.1GB for reference.

Needless to say, the VRAM usage has increased by quite a bit. I was not seeing above 6GB VRAM before, now I'm seeing just over 8GB VRAM use...

How does it look? Well I've only been on one planet/moon so far and of course aboard Key and the ships, but here are a few shots, the extra AI upscaled texture detail is there I think but I forgot to take before/after of the same areas lol.

Doesn't it look great without the brown/green washed out colour cast now :cool:

Also, actually now enjoying the combat more than before since picking up some ruthlessly powerful weapons, ammo on the other hand seems tricky to maintain... Ignore the fps in this, was using RTSS video recorder which drops the fps quite a bit when recording. Forgot to enable GFE in this session. You can see some of the lighting flaws in this like when I throw the grenade and the flames light up the wall below the floor seen through the stairs. This would not have happened with RTGI jus' sayin'.

If the above doesn't play in-line then
And some lols again, Sarah in her infinite randomness decided to take part in an entire dialogue facing the wall:

Can't see a difference tbh :cry: :p

I'm definitely finding some areas in general look way more detailed than others though, interior textures look great, it's just some planets exteriors that look a bit dodgy.

You got any other mods apart from the lut/filter remover mrk?

Supposedly these are only 2K AI upscaled textures so I guess the enhancements are more subtle or visible in areas of low detail before, crisper etc.

Only mods downloaded are the HD texture packs for landscape and ships, Nicholas Cage torch lol, Smooth Ship reticle, Smooth Interface, Neutral-LUTs, EXE effects (revamps the particle effects like explosions etc and adds more gore/blood to locations/bodies).

I've added a camera tweak to the custom ini too that distances the camera a bit more when in the farthest 3rd person view on mouse wheel backwards, my ini looks like this:

[Camera]
fFPWorldFOV=95
fTPWorldFOV=95
fFarCameraDistanceOffset=4.4 (default is 2.2 for ref)

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

[Display]
fSpaceGlowBackgroundScale=0.0
fStarIntensity=2500.0
fStarSystemFarViewDistance=10000000000.0
fStarfieldBackgroundScale=35.0
fStarfieldStarBrightnessScale=10.0
fStarfieldStarCoordScale=10.0
fSunScale=1.0

Oh yeah I also observed that every time you open the scanner the frametime spikes which causes an onscreen hitch. Rapidly press the scanner button and you can basically spike the entire frametime line. This is repeatable even on stock. Some funky CPU + GPU mis-utilisation in this engine for sure.
