***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Honestly, the loading screens haven’t bothered me. The alternative would be just walking endlessly and wasting time. The game loads into new areas fast so I’m fine with it. Conversely, i was thinking yesterday that i wish they had a moon buggy vehicle to make slogging along between undiscovered areas on a planet faster.
This is my main bugbear at the moment. It's as if they've artificially inflated the playtime of the game as you spend 5-10 minutes walking to any area you're interested in and then the same walking back. I've found constantly running and jumping as you don't use up O2 while in the air makes it slightly quicker.

The mission system and map aren't the best either. Sometimes it's not completely clear where you have to go on your star map too. And I really need some ship upgrades, Shields especially.

I can only assume those seeing shimmering are on 1440p monitors, I’m on 4K and get no shimmering with FSR at 75% scaling.

As I explore more of the different planets I have been experiencing the disparity in some of the texture and lighting quality. They really need to fix that if possible. Sometimes it makes the game look very poor graphically. The thing is if I go out of the way I can make the game look really dated, or I can make it look very good in the more handcrafted parts.

Out of curiosity I spent an evening playing CP 2077 and started a new game as a Corpo or whatever. The first part was in the building where none of the lights worked, that was super annoying not being able to see. I had DLSS quality set and the shimmer on the textured floor was very noticeable. Outside improved a lot but was still not super impressive, even with RT on.

Same with the characters, very stiff and wooden facial animation and no better than Starfield. The biggest problem though was the terrible boring gameplay and it had no likeable characters. I hate games where you are shoehorned in cutscenes as some total ********. It’s why I hated RDR2 and GTA V and the same with CP 2077. They are trying to be “gritty” and “dark” but in the end you are just being forced to role play as a terrible excuse for a human being.

I gave up after a few hours due to total boredom and played some BG3 and Starfield. It was refreshing to get back to a game with good enjoyable quest lines and good story writing.

Cringe :p

Yeah I’ve upgraded my backpack boost skill so on some planets i never need to touch the filthy ground

I agree re the mission system and map, it is quite cumbersome at times.

So do most of the different ship hab modules actually make a difference, like with a lot of parts there's a clear physical attribute that means something, I can see massive crew modules being useful for either keeping all your companions around or the random transport missions but some of these modules I'm a bit lost, there's a few that add certain workbenches that have clear tangible effects on my ship or quality of life, but then there's things like computer cores and battlestations, do they have any kind of actual use or is just an RP thing?

Just had a thought. There should be a ship module that includes a little buggy that at least two of you, maybe more can ride on. Or, perish the thought, there will be one released as paid DLC. Which, I think, if it was £5 or so, I'd actually buy. And feel dirty about it.

Yeah they do make a difference.... I've been heavily sidetracked into upgrading and customising my ship, and noticed you miss out on workbenches depending on the hab modules. Haven't figured out which ones contain what yet!

Workbenches are the easy one because you see the tangible gain on your ship, I'm talking more about, what does say a battlestation module actually do? Does it improve my ship in combat, does it mean my companions can fire guns, like what does it actually do for a 2 x 1 module that couldn't be achieved by putting a living quarters in the same slot and bringing an extra body along?

i might be wrong but anything that doesn’t give you things like workbenches or crew slots etc is there solely for cosmetic/design/rp purposes I haven’t seen them do anything special to affect the ship.

Stop it! You guys are making me want to build/upgrade my ship! :p:D

I have about 130K I think now. But that probably is not much if I am to build a nice ship. One I had my eye on one to buy and it was around 250K.

<SNIPPED>
you also have sections of seriously low res textures, worse than HL2 for example:

Yes just walk around to the other side of that block nd you have details like this:

So there's a stark issue with quality consistency between lighting and textures that is seen as you explore more and more.

£29 :p
Watching some of the reviews/previews left me thinking it looks worse than HL2. How can a modern game demand so much GPU grunt and look like a 2004 era game :D .

Also while sponsored by AMD, AMD left it up the developers if want to add DLSS but not they've not even bothered.
£5 game max for NV GPU users :p

Lol, what’s wrong. Nobody allowed an opinion that differs from anything that upsets the Nvidialist cult?

OK, OK DLSS and CrapPunk great FSR and Starfield bad.

Happy now?

Actually don’t bother replying. I find it better to put trolls on ignore.

Lol. If you are going to be calling me a troll and putting me on ignore for that comment then that says a lot right there.

Take a chill pill pal :D

Funny thing is only one making it out to be an amd/nvidia thing is him (just look at all the posts in this thread by him :D), seems to be when anyone dares to mention cp 2077 being better, it triggers him

Such a hard thing to believe that people can enjoy and love both games but shock horror, see the flaws that each one might have and shock horror, there are some things that cp just does better

Anyone else tried that AI enhanced texture pack? Thoughts?

They can effect the stats of the ship as well, more mass, slower speed, turning radius etc.

Exactly.

Besides I like both games. He obviously knows this as he reads the thread. I have said many times I am loving Starfield.

Based his behaviour I am not surprised he is not enjoying Cyberpunk and finds the graphics crap. Basically it seems he is letting it being an Nvidia game get in the way of enjoying it.

Why even take any sides. DLSS is objectively better. Simple as that. I say it how it is. Couldn't give a crap about greedy Jensen and his company.

Sounds like a well known AMD troll on all the forums we're all aware of... Used to even have amd in his previous name before being banned for such activities... Oh the irony...

Skyrim and Oblivion were like that too. Texture detail is inconsistent. Also they aren't always wrapped or stitched together properly or and it looks odd.
