***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I get 52-60fps in the busiest parts of town with native 1440p ultra if you red my previous posts...

Sub 60fps in any area of the game, on a £700+ graphics card is crap, having to use upscaling on a below 1080p resolution to get reasonable results on a £700+ GPU is even worse. The game is a respectable 7/10 but there's no denying it runs like crap for how it looks.

We know how insane the CPU scaling/bandwidth scaling is in the game, a 4090 barely even warms up if your not using the latest CPU/DDR5 combo, also explains why nvidia is impacted more than AMD as we know nvidia has a driver overhead issue while AMD does not. Hence why a 7900XTX beats a 4090 in Starfield (yet get demolished in everything else)

Loving the gameplay and differing storylines in Starfield and yet I feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

I had an encounter with some degenerates and thought "screw you, I'm gonna steal your ship!" :D

So I did, and I'm going to call it my Terrific Massive Ninja Spaceship....

I made a mistake when I did the settings, see the post I previously just made?
100% scaling 1440p ultra with the new mod @Neil79 posted is netting 80s 100% scaling 1440p ultra...

How is a £520 gpu a £700? I don't have a Ti?

Go back to the previous page and you'll see I'm now getting this with the new mod at 100% scaling 1440p ultra:

I run at 1440p mate?

All I'm saying is that, now I've set it up with that new Frame Gen/DLSS3.5 mod @Neil79 kindly linked me to, that it runs nice visually/fps wise with 100% scaling set at 1440p ultra?

Is there any way @Neil79 I can press a key to display the scaling option to show you whilst in game like with the previous dlss PureDark mods? If so I'll take another photo.

Just making the point that Starfield should be running twice as fast as it is on a 4070 (or any card really) considering that it looks worse than a game from 4 years ago.

Ah ok mate, yeah I get you, sorry I was more getting at I'm happy with the new mod @Neil79 just linked me to and fixing my settings and finding out I can now run 1440p ultra with 100% scaling with that new mod and still get low 80s in the busy areas :) I'll take that for SP on a game from Bethesda haha

Ah my bad @lovelyhead @TNA @CAT-THE-FIFTH @Noxia @Neil79 , sorry wasn't very awake when I checked my settings haha!
Just installed the dlss3.5/frame gen mod...
and this is the results with 1440p ultra 100% resolution scaling...

I did play with 70-90% scaling but wanted to push my luck, and thanks to Frame Gen and DLSS3.5 properly being installed now with the new mod it doesn't seem worth it to me to gain 10-20fps over having 100% scaling?

Pretty happy with that, only uses a tiny bit more wattage draw than before on my gpu compared to the 70% dlss2 scaling mod. I am heavily undervolted though.

Is there any way I can get it to display the mod plugins resolution scaling settings like the previous PureDark mods did? As then I could take another pic for you. But yeah that's with it set to 100% scaling with 1440p ultra settings...
For note - you should be able to windows snip the RTSS overlay using Win+Shift+S, it'll get copied to your clipboard. Assuming that makes thing easier for you. The mod however, YMMV, for the skyrim one I needed to lose focus using my second screen.

Is that 100% scaling with FG on?

I think worthabuy was spot on with his review.
Everybody is different though, so nothing beats making your own opinion and being able to get a refund if you dislike it. No worse than downloading a demo and deleting it, we have it pretty good these days with steam from that aspect. Vs buying it from a store/ripping the seal off and being screwed out of £60-70

Thanks man, sorry I've never modded a Bethesda game, so this is all new to me, ok I'll go try that now mate, thanks.

That's with 100% scaling yes, FG I presume is on, I only skim red the link and DL'ed the files? Do I need to press anything to enable it if not?

Why not buy it on steam and make your own opinion vs relying on clickbait desperate kids on youtube?
Then if you don't like it simply get your refund within the time limit?
Stop lining these cretins wallets.
Simples...
Agree but isn't Mack in his 50s? Hardly a kid, just a bitter old dude.

Oh my bad your GPU is only marginally more expensive than an Xbox Series X or PS5.

Having to use DLSS and Frame Generation to get a respectable frame rate on current generation hardware is not ok, specially at 1440p, I could understand and fully support the requirement for 4k (literally 4 x the resolution)

Mack can make valid points, so I wouldn't dismiss the review simply because. That said, and I've not watched it, I imagine he broke the bell the moment pronouns came up and would hate the game from then on.

Not a clue! The skyrim mod I use was done by puredark, so I think it's a different modder. It should say on the nexus page somewhere.

Nothing wrong with 1440p usage with DLSS? In fact as shown a number of times in this very thread, let alone other threads, DLSS gives better image quality/stability at all resolutions :p

At the high end GPU scale the difference to fps with and without DLSS/FSR is minimal in Starfield (or no difference at all due to reasons), but you gain the better image quality, so DLSS should be used regardless for that reason alone.

How do I remove weapons from my favourites? Also, where's the best place to trade and offload my crap?
If you're on a station like The Key, then you have immediate access to technicians, weapons and bits and bobs traders you can basically sell your stuff to. Sell like for like to relevant traders for the most credits.

Right, I think this is what you all asked for but I am half asleep...
1440p ultra, 100% scaling using the new dlss3.5/FG mod I was linked to just now... 12% sharpness (probably need to play around with this but I've only just installed this mod minutes ago)
@CAT-THE-FIFTH @lovelyhead @Neil79 @Noxia @TNA @mrk @HungryHippos @loftie @MadMossy Opinions please? You happy now haha!

Also, @MadMossy I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic with the price vs xbox comment? Did you think I had a Ti then?

TBH This is the only game I've actually bothered to use DLSS on tbh - mainly because I thought why not try out some mods as I've never modded a Bethesda game before and wanted to see what was possible from the community on release day etc etc.

Anything else current I can max out in 1440p native no issues, I personally framecap SP games at 60fps and unlock fps for CS:GO as that's all I play online, as I prefer a silent system that sips power and doesn't burn my leg...

I can for example run RE4 Remake with RT on and max'ed 1440p settings at 280-300w total system draw with way above 60fps...

I'm by no means saying having to use RT on this is acceptable considering what my GPU can do in everything else btw, just happy despite it's issues I can run it fine with my setup, and in silence/low power draw/cool temps :)

That's true.

My disapointment playing this game is that I have played Elite Dangerous, Skyrim, Fallout 4 etc. I was expecting a mixture of all those games and in some respects it is but I feel that it doesn't really do anything better than those games and in many respects it does it worse.

Elite Dangerous - I knew going in that you can't pilot the ship down to the surface of a planet like Elite but I was hoping to be able to fly my ship between planets and solar systems like Elite's supercruise and hyperspace. Instead it all takes place between a series of loading screens. Elite Dangerous is now 9 years old.

Fallout 4 / Skyrim - Had a massive open world to explore that was only interrupted with loading screens when entering a cave or village etc. When I'm playing Starfield you just feel like you are moving between a series of boxes separated with loading screens. It just doesn't feel good. The quest's I have done so far in Starfield have not been very interesting and I hear it takes hours and hours before they get good. I never felt like that in previous Bethesda games.

It really doesn't help when I have just come of the back of playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which in my opinion is the best game I have ever played in my life. Starfield just pales into insignificance to it in regards to gameplay, art direction, story and game design. Doesn't even come close.

See my new screenshots I've just done above for you guys as requested.

Yeah I get your points mate, that's fair enough. I personally thought Skyrim was a MAJOR let down after having done FO4/3/NV... I thought the plot was really going somewhere then I kill that dragon and a VERY underwelming end boss battle and it's all over. Meh.
