***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Just checked out the game on my system, same location as you were, higher resolution (3440x1440p)

Same settings as you posted above, no upscaling/FSR2 etc

Ancient CPU (Ryzen 2700X 32GB DDR4 @ 3000, 3200 isn't stable on my X470 motherboard)
AMD 7900XT

Got 50fps in the exact same spot, even running at lower resolution it doesn't change (tried 2560x1440p and 1920x1080p) so I am heavily CPU/Bandwidth limited, GPU use is ~50%.

For what it's worth if I had a newer CPU like the 7800X3D and DDR5 I'd be pushing over 100fps.
Get a 5800X3D in there and your FPS and GPU usage will increase by quite a bit. Will likely need a BIOS update too but that may also help with your memory stability issue and have a nice, capable machine until next gen AM5 comes round.

5800X3D is my next upgrade will also hopefully allow me to use my memory at 3600.

My 3080 Ti seems to however around 260-280w last I checked in this game. Generally speaking I keep it below 300w in most games. No chance of even keeping the temp steady in a whole house, let alone heat it in winter :p

Am always surprised, these Alienware QD-OLED kick out a bit of heat too, as well as the rest of the system, so all that excess does have a noticeable impact especially if you're cyberpunking for a few hours.

Can you mod the Windows/Xbox store version or is it only the steam version that you can mod ?

This is the million dollar question, I think it depends how they do the files for it. I've had some games on Game Pass where modding wasn't possible, and others where it was.

@MOOGLEYS From what I've read modding the windows store versions of games used to be an issue but no longer is, but don't take my word as gospel please!

One of the major mods has just been released, the script extender, and this is what the modder has said:

Compatiblity: SFSE supports the release of Starfield on Steam. Other stores (Windows Store/Game Pass) are not supported.

Yeah its that will they/wont they work issue with mods, which has meant that I have already preordered Cities 2 on Steam rather than play it on gamepass when its released

This video seems to suggest you can:

I don't know if certain mods won't work for some reason, but the DLSS ones appear to.

Edit - some mods that use Script Extender won't work due to how Game Pass works?

Not sure if any of the important ones use it.

Well, in fairness, I never said mods won't work with gamepass or WindowsStore, just that SFSE won't.

There is a free DLSS Frame Generation MOD on Nexus too for those interested, downloaded but not installed yet as popping out for an hour, but it has both Store/Xbox and Steam versions available.

Built my first outpost and I have installed the large ship landing pad, can't seem to actually land on the pad though when I touch down on the planet. Anyone else experienced this?

Yes am not calling out what anyone has said specifically with regards to mods working or not, I don't even know what SFSE is or what impact that has.

I'm mainly interested in what does/doesn't work as to which version I need to use, if the important mods work on the Game Pass one then it's fine and I'm not too concerned.

I am not planning to hugely mod the game away from vanilla, adding DLSS support, changing the colours a bit to remove the washed out look would be priority ones.

Spawning items or money not on my list to do, on the random bits I've seen, useful one to adjust carry weight would seem good (less over-burdened issues from all that looting), that may require script extender?

SFSE will, more than likely, be an important mod if previous games are to go by.

Edit: If you're doing very light and limited modding, YMMV, but you'll probably be fine. IIRC the script extenders were often part of a lot of mods, but something like increased backpack space I don't think needed it. Nor texture packs.

Just a for instance, anyone that played Skyrim, realised early on that the inventory and UI were simply awful.

Modders fixed those with the help of the Skyrim script extender.

Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) is a tool adding additional scripting capabilities and functionality to the game.

Yea I was going to mention SkyUI, but i wasn't 100% if it required it, or if it could work in a more limited fashion without it. And I was too lazy to check :p

There is one called StarUI to improve inventory which should work on all versions.

Might be OK on this end then if the main ones I want to use work, as long as the game plays OK I'm not that likely to replay it or mod it once I've played through it once.
