***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I refunded BG3, just not for me, I don't like the fantasy setting and the casino mechanics.

Totally different games. Starfield is easily my GOTY so far.
It's strange, I feel exactly the opposite. Perhaps Starfield will grow on me though.

I think every big title is rife with Fanboyism, to be fair I've seen my share of fanboyism over Starfield too, only got to look at some of those 10/10 reviews to see it. All boils down to perspective really, for every person who says BG3 is one of the most overhyped games they've seen, there will be another who says that Starfield is one of the most overhyped games they've seen. As I say, big titles tend to excel at creating the "game X can do no wrong and its the greatest game I've played for many a year" mentality, usually followed by fanatical defending of the title of their choice and derogatory stabs at anyone who begs to differ.

Until I put my reading glasses on, I read this as 'titties', and I was going to say, I have to agree with the sentiment.

Same!

Baldurs Gate 3, best game I have played for a good few year! 10/10 easy!
Starfield, play for 30mins meh, play for another meh! Will finish Baldurs Gate 3 first :D
The interface is really clunky in Starfield and I think that's putting me off (BG 3's isn't brilliant either). Also, I have a 3900X Ryzen CPU which is struggling a bit these days. However, even when GPU limited my RTX 3080 is also struggling to maintain 60 FPS outside at the HWUnboxed optimised settings (the performance preset).

At least it doesn't stutter much, so that's a plus point.

StarUI improves the inventory a lot.

Finding it a little stale to start off with, but will give it time.

The writing seems a bit weird... "Here random new miner we hardly know, have my ship, my robot and this rare artifact and I'll trust you to take to this place...". Lol what?

Erm. He was able to interact with the artifact? Or did you skip that bit and misunderstood the significance of that? Lol

Using this one? https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/111/

Did you press End and turn it on? (I think it was off for me)
For note - if I have it off in the mod menu, the game is sharper, when I turn it on I'll get an fps boost and the game will go back to looking similar to Upscaler = Off
It wasnt that one but I had, but I've d/l it and it works. Swapped to preset D which is I believe the quality preset and gained 30 fps

Thank you.

The key for a first playthrough is to just not think about it too much, apply perks that make sense for your playstyle and enjoy the game.

You can always look at the "meta" or Min-max style builds in subsequent playthroughs (or I am guessing via mods down the line which allow for resetting of the skill trees).

It is certainly how I am approaching the game anyway. Too much to take in otherwise which will otherwise distract from the game itself. Kind of like @Meridian notes.

Not hugely far in myself as I have been mostly exploring, and getting lost, in New Atlantis (am I missing a local area map somewhere?).

Played it on Series X, ROG Ally and my desktop ([email protected] / RTX4070) and, barring the 30FPS cap on console, it otherwise plays the same. I am wondering if this cap is actually down to the wild swings in performance seen on PC rather than the Series X not being capable of more than 30FPS. The performance being around 30-40 on the Ally makes sense given the limited GPU grunt but the framerate is all over the place on my desktop for seemingly no reason. One moment I am at a locked 60 looking across the main promenade of New Atlantis and then the next I am in the mid 40's looking at a blank wall in a shop...?? Now given the settings I am running, and my desktop specs (4K DSR at 65% with Med/High mix of settings), I wasn't expecting 100+ FPS constantly but I was kind of expecting a locked 60. Clearly needs a bit of work in the optimisation department, be that from Bethesda or the GPU manufacturers. (Note - I have yet to try the DLSS mod).

Can't comment massively on the game itself so far as I feel I haven't played enough to properly given an opinion. However, I have enjoyed what I have played so far. The combat feels good (for a Bethesda game anyway) and the interactions to date have been interesting. I can't explain why but at the moment I am getting real Destiny 1 Vanilla vibes. That sense of everything being new with lots to delve into and pick apart. Now hopefully it won't be as deep as a puddle like D1 ended up being from a gameplay loop perspective.

I am just hoping I can enjoy the game to the end and not get bogged down in too much "RPG Grind" as too much of that can kill a game dead for me.
Yeah I restarted and just doing my own thing including doublecrossing bandits whenever the opportunity arises - persuade them then kill them anyway!

Thank you.
There was a list of what the presets do somewhere, but they're not Quality/Balanced/Performance etc. they're something else. My experience in Skyrim was that some were worse for ghosting. The Quality/Balanced/Performance you'd normally see in a DLSS game will be set by the render resolution slider in the settings - 67% is what quality would set it to, and that's all I can remember tbh. But tbh set the render resolution to whatever you want - 100% is the equivalent of DLAA. I've been fiddling with it between 67% - 90% to see what I'm happy with performance wise.

For note: Trying to change the sharpness number on the mod interface causes the game to crash for me, so if you fiddle with that I advise a save first!
