***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Not even entertaining that one lol but knock yourself out if you really want to read back that far. Have a great day guys, I'll be in game next three days :) Hope this doesn't upset anyone X

To be honest, it seems like you're trying to start arguments rather than there being any real meltdowns here. Maybe one or two posters, but it's by no means common.

It's as if some people can't take any real criticism of the game and it sets them off to make a comment like yours about "meltdowns".

Have fun over the next few days :)

Pro tip for the locks, you can position each one and check it solves all entry points on the lock before you commit to using any pick.

I meant I see the patterns far faster with the master locks and other grades vs expert. Expert seems to be the sweet sport for challenge where it doesn't restrict many keys to set rings, providing more choice.

Genuine question but what is your system specs and settings?

It is generally ok for me but with some jarring drops in New Atlantis on my desktop (Ryzen 7600 / RTX 4070).

These drops would be less noticeable if I was using my monitor with VRR/G-sync but been testing it on my TV as I am struggling to deal with 30FPS on Series X (This sort of game for me a sofa + controller soft of thing hence testing it in this manner).

:)
Mixture of High/Ultra (couldn't see any effect from high to ultra with some stuff so left them)

5600X, 16gb RAM & a slightly clocked Sapphire 16gb RX6800 with res scaling at 80% 3440x1440p, i got some odd ghosting at below 80% around some characters.

Only technical issue I have is blacks seem really washed out.

OK, so I've managed to steal two spaceships from the same planet without leaving it. And Sarah Morgan didn't complain about either. As I said yesterday, they were within a kilometre of each other. On each one I went on board after picking the lock, and sat in the pilot seat. I actually then got off and went into a collapsed mine. When I came out I got a message: "You have a new ship". That seemed to be the second of the two ships, which I didn't like as much (big, slow, heavy) so I went back to the first one and took off in that. Now both are mine. Registered both for about $10k a piece, and then sold one. Yes, the sell rate is terrible (about 1/8 without perks as best I can tell), but it's the same for everything.

Also got a bit better at ship modding. Par of the problem was I was misunderstanding what numbers going red meant. I thought it was that I'd done something wrong, but it just meant numbers had got worse. I'll have another play when I have more money and maybe an outpost or two.

Also, I just found out that the personal store in your room in The Lodge has infinite capacity! And I think that when you use the craftig gear there it accesses the ship storage?

You too, perhaps brush up on refining that passive aggressive rhetoric, might pay off one day. X

The only one being passive-aggressive is you, as you allude to meltdowns etc, but when asked to point out who has one, you can't answer directly.

Your original post suggested that there were several people on here throwing a tantrum about the game, and that's just not the case.

Noticed that from a few people on here.

Look back through the earlier chunk of this thread. The responses some people were giving for the game not have HDR and their blacks being grey on oled monitors, easily fits under the term tantrum. ;)

I was reading the thread at the time those comments were being made and very few of them came across like someone having a meltdown over it? I don't think it's that out there to expect a game this big in 2023 to have HDR or correct black-levels.

Have you got any specific examples?

Hard disagree, 7+ year development. It has taken a few simple mods some user has made in their spare time to make it usable, so what is the reason for not doing it? Oh the community will do it.
If you are triple AAA game dev then something like HDR should be implemented on release.

Also, nice ship.

I'm liking the game more now I've got out of the initial parts. It's not as bad as some reviewers are making out. Feels like a mix between Fallout and Starwars.

The space parts are lacking though. It actually feels a bit like Freelancer, but nowhere near as rich and the space visuals aren't as impressive (even now).

I think complaining about a AAA gamein 2023 missing features like that are pretty valid complaints. There is tonnes with this game that doesn't make sense but I'm still having a lot of fun

But, in my opinion, it is utterly forgivable that a game about space makes space look so washed out and not the endless black sea that it should be.

Outside in New Atlantis without DLSS3/FG mod even with 4090 was pretty shocking performance wise.

With it, runs well enough, inside bits ran fine regardless.

Same GPU here but no issues outside in NA for me. What CPU are you using? I thought my 5950X might not perform the greatest as it’s a few years old but I’ve experienced the opposite, it’s literally silky smooth everywhere so far, albeit only 10 hours or so into the game.

TBF, I’ve not looked at the FPS as it’s running so well I’ve not needed to.

No DLSS or FG going on here either, just native and DSR disabled.

Agreed the lack of gamma/brightness slider is fairly basic requirement, so when one is missing that must mean the game has been tweaked to perfection. Except a dark cave is filled with brown-grey.

Death Stranding needs to be tweaked so you can avoid clipping white and dark levels. Then the game crashed twice in the first 2 hours then I uninstalled it, so in that respect Starfield is much better.

Completely different types of games Ffs...

There are no genre restrictions in GOTY... and even if they are different types of RPG, there is nothing to stop an excellent experience in one game from influencing your experience in another.

It's perfectly natural to compare things, they don't have to have all the same elements for a comparison to be made.

Not surprised. They did not seem impressed with the game.

Saying that, this is probably a good thing. They really need to move to a new engine now.
I hope they do move to a new engine for TES6 and Fallout 5. They've squeezed every last drop out of the engine for Starfield and achieved some impressive stuff but just imagine Starfield in a modern engine ! A new uptodate engine for TES6 and Fallout 5 could truly make those stunning, especially if they sack the English Literature students for the storywriting and hire some proper writers ;)
