***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Havent got that far yet, but performance seems pretty good so far. Dont have an fps overlay but noticed no drops from my 72fps cap so far and gpu fans havent even ramped up so have headroom at the moment. Running a 12700k and 4070ti all on ultra 1440p with fsr at 75%.

When is the first area that is really demanding? New Atlantis?

It isnt a bad looking game, but you can definitely tell it is just Fallout 4 in a prettier frock. Certainly nothing that has wowed me yet.

There are no genre restrictions in GOTY... and even if they are different types of RPG, there is nothing to stop an excellent experience in one game from influencing your experience in another.

It's perfectly natural to compare things, they don't have to have all the same elements for a comparison to be made.
My point is that they are complete different games and some of us don't play those types of games hench me and others like me would never vote for BG3 as game of the year.

I hope they do move to a new engine for TES6 and Fallout 5. They've squeezed every last drop out of the engine for Starfield and achieved some impressive stuff but just imagine Starfield in a modern engine ! A new uptodate engine for TES6 and Fallout 5 could truly make those stunning, especially if they sack the English Literature students for the storywriting and hire some proper writers ;)
If they switched to a new engine. It will take 15 years to release a game from it!

If that was your point you should have said as much then as that's not how it came across. I wouldn't expect anyone to vote for a game they haven't played...

Also, the angry reaction to the post isn't helping matters.

I had already mentioned it on this very same thread when someone mentioned BG3 being a superior game, game of the century/masterpiece/made by the gods themselves etc etc

I didn't want to derail the thread earlier but BG3 is one of the most overhyped games I've come across. Everyone rating it based on the little time they have played it, I felt it was good, but not amazing. Got to act 3 and I regretted even starting it this year. Fanboyism seems rife, people listen to any old review and haven't twigged on to the fact most of them will be biased.

Well said.

Even though i do not like those sorts of games, i did read about it a bit and i diddnt see any innovated things that BG3 does that no other game does???

The way people hype it up, you would think this game is the most amazing game ever made that has done things no other RPG game has done before???!??!

I tell u what game IMO that will offer more that BG3, Ashes of Creation...

That it doing a lot more stuff than BG3 is!!!

It was riding the coat tails and nostalgia of the BG IP. I had a relatively good experience with DOS2 because I played the definitive edition but hadn't touched BG games before so I kind of got duped.
Starfield is obviously counting on the nostalgia of their previous games but people have short memories or have simply accepted the state of their releases.

Maybe it's the lack of other titles to sink our teeth into or maybe everyone's standards have dropped, I don't know. I really wanted a new CRPG to play at the time.

Same GPU here but no issues outside in NA for me. What CPU are you using? I thought my 5950X might not perform the greatest as it’s a few years old but I’ve experienced the opposite, it’s literally silky smooth everywhere so far, albeit only 10 hours or so into the game.

TBF, I’ve not looked at the FPS as it’s running so well I’ve not needed to.

No DLSS or FG going on here either, just native and DSR disabled.

I mean it clearly runs but it's just sat there in New Atlantis with people around and fps hitting 50-60 without maxing out the GPU, it's clearly not that well optimised considering it also looks kind of garbage.

There are bits in the game that genuinely look pretty good, but New Atlantis to me is sort of basic/meh.

Prefer Cydonia!

OK it seems I've turned into a bit of an idiot ... I installed a dlss mod and got no fps improvement but the game did look slightly better. Uninstalled and tried a different mod. Same results. Normally if I use dlss quality I get a noticeable increase in fps but no noticeable loss in image quality. So wtf am I doing wrong.

Currently Dynamic resolution ON
Render resolution scale 66%
Upscaling FSR2 (ie dlss due to mod)
Sharpening 80%

Using this one? https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/111/

Did you press End and turn it on? (I think it was off for me)
For note - if I have it off in the mod menu, the game is sharper, when I turn it on I'll get an fps boost and the game will go back to looking similar to Upscaler = Off

Agreed. I look forward to playing, but not under any illusions it will be something much better than I have ever played.

I think every big title is rife with Fanboyism, to be fair I've seen my share of fanboyism over Starfield too, only got to look at some of those 10/10 reviews to see it. All boils down to perspective really, for every person who says BG3 is one of the most overhyped games they've seen, there will be another who says that Starfield is one of the most overhyped games they've seen. As I say, big titles tend to excel at creating the "game X can do no wrong and its the greatest game I've played for many a year" mentality, usually followed by fanatical defending of the title of their choice and derogatory stabs at anyone who begs to differ.
