***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I see Eurogamer are still butthurt they didn't get a review code  they posted an article stating Starfield currently has less players than Skyrim (Original+Special Edition) whilst neglecting to say that at the weekend, Starfield had more players (+3100) - they also neglected to mention that Starfield only had 1200 less players than Fallout 3, 4, New Vegas and '76 combined.

nice to ber back playing, finally controller arrived from china and is a beaut :D but is there any end to the power challenges, doesnt matter how many ive done i still have the one blank, ive spent most of day offf trying to fill it up, im slowing going round the twist:cry:

I think the 'Power from Beyond' quests are bugged as I ran out of them with 5 powers still to find - I did find one more just exploring but obviously that's down to chance. I believe you get quests that point you to all of them if you do NG+ (if that's something you plan on doing).

I don't use many of the powers so I just put that on the backburner :)

Same, after doing ng+ i managed to fill in a few more but still have, i think, about five missing. No great loss as I've only ever used about three with any regularity but it is annoying. I also spent a few hours travelling to random systems but gave up.

i only got the one left, creators peace iirc, doesnt matter what i do i cant spk to eklund to finish the quest and get the final one, its annoying

I’ve got them all but only 4-5 are level 10 after completing NG+10.

TBH I’ve only started using the powers now after the slog to get there.

A few are only level 5 but most are 6,7 or 8.

I just forget to use them most of the time.

Enjoy the no awards eh :p

Deep down you care as a Starfield superfan :p

It would have fallen through the floor if placed on a shelf anyway.......

OK, I'll bite... :p

Looking through the awards categories, the only one Starfield was nominated for was best RPG - which I think is fair although (of course) it's in competition with Baldur's Gate 3 which is likely going to sweep all the awards it's nominated for.

Would I have nominated it for anything else? I think the music is good (and fitting) but it's unfocussed and not as memorable/impactful as Jeremy Soule's work on Skyrim so no nomination there.

Skyrim was lightyears ahead of the competition from 2011/12.

Mods, patches, updates and expansions were super slow coming, especially to consoles though. I played it on PlayStation and PC in that era. It was well worthy of its awards though.

Starfields challenge on early awards is everyone's expectations are acutely impossible for it.

BG3 is much more focused and in it's genre absolutely superb though.

Who cares about gaming awards anyway.

Bethesda has a pretty full display cabinet already.

What could Starfield have been as a MP game built on an engine better suited for it.
I was one that was very happy it was single player, having played more of Fallout 76 I wish they had gone in more of that direction where you could do single most of the time but also maybe team up to do a big boss type event.

Imagine space station outposts, flying through the galaxies stopping off at DeepSpace Nine for some of Ferengi's finest fluids for the soul, only to be arrested by Odo because of stolen contraband.

The possibilities.....

Well it would be carnage in space on a busy server, transport lanes would be needed?
Depends on the player count but space is big enough, I still play New World, 3000+ players on a single server is not a problem and that's only a Skyrim size map.

ED had online and off line modes.

Something like that yes but obviously with its own lore.
There is one game trying to make that but it has its own problems, Starfield is rich in game loops but very poor in emersion due to severe technology limitations of the engine, the other has the engine, see my signature.... but story driven mission loops don't really exist, it has great lore, its just not been used to any sort of effect, not yet, i think Bethesda using this engine might do a better job.

A StarTrek RPG like that would be awesome. Even I would pay £65 for that!

but but but....

“I asked our audience, ‘What would you ask Todd?’” Bloomberg anchor Ed Ludlow said. “Big question for many: ‘Why did you not optimize this game for PC?’”

“Uh, we did,” Howard said while Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer giggled. “It’s running great. It is a next-gen PC game. We really do push the technology, so you may need to upgrade your PC for this game. But it’s got a lot of great stuff going on in it, and the fans are responding awesome.”

:p

Yeah he's trying to justify the performance with the visuals, which are in some cases not bad and in others..... well bad! New Atlantis looks pretty bad, its a side effect of the engines limitations, it just can't render something on that scale at high quality so it just looks like a high res PS4 game... and the actual scale of it, well its tiny.

That is the least of its problem's.

The loading screens, the engine doesn't have any asset streaming tech let alone a 64Bit Cardinalates system, so every time you enter a door or any area outside your view you are loading a new level, everything that you see in space is fake, the planet you're looking it is not actually there, its a visual sprite, there is nothing there, nothing but a skybox.

Your ship is meaningless, literally you don't even need it at all, well... you do sort of but can just fade to black load from place to place when you've been there once. so as something that you care about, something that you would want to give a name and call it home, you just don't get that sense with it, its just an inventory box and a load screen portal.

All this also makes it impossible to be MP because if you have 10 of your mates crewing your ship and running around in there doing what they do you cannot be loading from planet to space or space to planet, which is loading level to level, because the game cannot just pick John up while he's walking in the corridor and dump him in the new level, its why none of these games have that, other than one, it requires that an entire star system, the entire universe... is one level, one seamless boundless map.

Beta patch is a nice improvement, shame it took them this long.

Might play some of the missions I left out, HDR is nice too, still needs work but it's better then nothing.

I do wonder how people are so far on in the game with many many hours spent but have so few achievements. I'm still doing side missions and when I finish them steam says something like "28% of players have achieved this". What are people doing? I've only spent 40hrs yet I'm doing stuff less than 30% of players have achieved.
