***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

These days, I don't like to pay more than £25 for any PC game. £80 is hilarious. Even if it's the best game ever, that's too much.
I feel the same way when I see people paying £50 and upward for Warhammer figures. Even if its the best looking figure ever , its dozens of £'s more than I would pay for one.

think i paid 49 for mortal kombat 2 when i was a kid for the snes version. Pc games were cheaper tho cos they didnt use expensive carts. Amiga etc games used to be cheaper too i think average was about a tenner maybe. I say amiga cos amiga and pc and consoles were about the same back in the late 80s and early 90s gfx wise.

that's a rich persons hobby though and you keep them for life at least.
we don't even own PC games anymore aso anything over £40 is pretty ridiculous.

These companies don't even do discounts for remakes of games you already own in your library etc... there's no loyalty to any customers

Also you can almost garuntee the starfield collectors mega rich edition items won't be anywhere near the quality of what they show in videos...
I bet the actual watch will look like it came from a vending machine and the case will be an expensive lunchbox

I'll probably be a sucker and pay for the 5 days headtstart mind

What it highlights though, is that what everyone considers to be value for money is different. I think warhammer figures (and other similar things) are a complete waste of money but for people who are into that, they see it as worthwhile expenditure. Me on the other hand, I game, a lot, like 60+ hours every single week, every month, every year. So for me, a game, even at £70, that I get 100 hours or more out of, is worthwhile expenditure. Value for money is a very subjective thing. There's no real right or wrong, just what you as an individual feel comfortable spending. Only rule of thumb a person needs to follow is if you dont feel comfortable on an expenditure, dont spend it (the main reason why I havent bought a 4000 series gpu :D )

Exactly, it's far more about whether you can justify the expenditure to yourself. If no one ever bought anything just because they wanted it or for a hobby that they enjoy, life would be boring ;)

I expect I'll buy the game outright at some point down the line, at launch I'll play it through gamepass.

I *might* buy it on Steam IF I like what I play of it on Gamepass (so that I have it for when it eventually leaves Gamepass) but certainly for the first several months I will just play it on gamepass

Wonder if the launch of Starfield will go as well as Fallout 4 did. It's getting increasingly harder to trust these larger studios to actually release a playable product.
That is the biggest problem now with new releases. I gave up buying on day of release many years back. just to many game breaking bugs now and needless to say you also save money.

They will sell 50+ million copies, they could sell it for £10 and still make a big profit. £80+ is just pure greed.
This shows a complete lack of understanding of business, economics, and the circular flow of income.

They are not a charitable organisation. These companies have investors and employees. The investors want to make money to make a return on their risk to improve the lives of themselves and their families.

Employees want to make bonuses and a good wage for the value they are creating, again to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

If their main priority was not to add value but instead to avoid hurting FredFlint's feelings, then not only would the incentive to invest in the game reduce as returns are lower, reducing the quality of the game, but the whole economy would suffer as less wealth has been created overall.

I just detest these idiotic posts complaining about the price of discretionary luxury products. It's like some people never attended school.

Imagine the tragedy and drama in those studios when one of those games gets a discount. All crying on each other's shoulders, how the economy suffers due to lower wealth being created. Just terrible.

Same. Bugs being that main reason unfortunately.

I will pay up to £50 on rare occasions where it's a AAA game and I'm desperate to play. But 6+ months when stable and often can be had at £25-35 on sale seems the sweet spot.

Yep I agreee . My Sky bill is £114 each montn so if I buy 2 games a year at £50 to £80 a pop then no big deal.

Gone are the days of buying BF2 for £19.99 and cooking up over 2200 hours game time -bargain of my life that one.

I do find people coming in defending business' funny though, "yo R NOT SMORT! BUSINESS nEeD MOneY, MakE BVUSINESS grOW, PEoPle HapPy!" I think everyone understands the basic needs of a business. I mean it really is just greed these days as all the investors can see is, profit must go up!

To add to this for me.

My investment gains on Microsoft this day alone will pay for this many times over. It's essentially free.
