*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

Ah, here are a few tips

1 - Have coins on you to get drinks and stay hydrated. Lots of 7-11 or vending machine around. Be sure to get the BLUE icon on the vending machine, RED is for hot drinks. You can actually download an app on the iPhone call Suica, load up money in it and use that as contactless for vending machines and 7-11. As opposed to buying a physical one for £5 from train stations.

This is really useful because it saves me going to top up the physical card from the machines, i can top it up as i go. Not a lot of places accept contactless from a bank card but they accept Suica as payment. Like ticket machines at Temples. You will need an app per person, you can only pay for 1 ticket per phone/account.

2 - Japanese don't really do Deodrants, they have them but in tiny roll on. Quite hard to find a spray one. Reason being that the Japanese in the majority, genetically, don't have BO.

3 - Try land in Haneda, it's much closer to the Tokyo (if you are going to Tokyo). Narita is not in Tokyo, Haneda is 30mins on the over ground train and Narita is 2hrs away.

Cheers. Think we are planning to land at Haneda, and leave from Osaka.

'It can load windows so geforce now and stadia will 100% work as once you have windows on it you'll have Edge or Chrome.'

Can't find the original post for this but I just don't get why so many people are having this logic, you're buying a capable, portable gaming machine, then using a streaming service, on a device which only has WiFi?

The steam deck will play basically your entire steam library, locally without any connection i.e on a train/crap hotel wifi etc etc - whereas GFN has a tiny library in comparison, you need a decent connection and also either pay for priority or wait for a device to become free.

You can already run GFN/Stadia on phones with no issue if that's what you're looking for.

It's like buying a gaming laptop then using geforce now to run a game instead of your new gaming capable laptop. :o

They are saying "they can", doesn't mean they will be 100% of the time.

Just because I CAN **** in my garden, doesn't mean I will or want to.

Having the option to do this is a selling point, it adds value. It means the Deck is an open book, like a PC, as opposed to it being a walled garden.

The Deck being an open book, is indeed good. But why people are wanting to/pleased that they can use limited game streaming services on a Wifi only device which is actually built to run games locally to me is stupid and does not add value to the device.

Using your analogy, it's like buying a house, but being so pleased that you have a garden you can take a **** in.

Those of you who reserved this, would you have still if there were no touch pads? Having said that, the analog and button placements look quite bad.

512 model reserved

Annoyingly I got locked out of trying to pay for an hour because of spamming the continue button. Apparently I was making too many purchases and too fast

Won't be seeing it until Q2 2022 but honestly that's fine by me. I'm not desperate to have it immediately, they may improve on any launch issues by then and I still have a £1k loan to pay off and a multiple thousand pound turntable and cartridge I want to buy

It wouldn't let me reserve on the day saying I can on the 18th (I only used steam to buy a cheap copy of 3d mark).

Anyway I checked on the 17ty and it allowed me to reserve 256gb for Q2. Then some people were saying 64gb probably upgradable so I thought should I cancel. So got my bro to reserve the 64gb a good few hours later and it's Q1.

Interesting indeed, they seem to be asking a similar question I've been thinking since I pre-ordered

Will Valve do some work to reduce the install sizes of games on the Steam Deck?

Probably unrealistic for them to do something for every game in the store but maybe they can streamline some of the bigger/more popular ones?
