**The official Vanguard Thread**

I still think it's the most promising mmo released since WoW but in its current state it can't possibly justify people paying to play it, I'll come back to it in six months or something when hopefully it'll run and look a little better too. It looks awful on my PC even on high as fsaa seems to be blocked and posts like this don't seem too encouraging as far as jaggie reduction goes.

Oh and anyone with a 8800 turn off AA under control panel to stop dissapearing graphics and mobs

would that work with the 7900GTX as well? ive been getting dissapearing graphics and mobs. I just thought it was the funky pop up effects made famous by Oblivion.

ohh and just to check with folk: armour that you get is it supposed to appear in game on your character when you equip it yeah?

I'm with the above posters performance wise now. Yesterday I had a lot of problems which I thought was Vanguard, but it was telewest jumping from 20ms-2sec lag every 30-40secs. Lag in this game is strange, where as it affects movement/actions by warping in other games while not affecting FPS technically as such, in Vanguard it drops the FPS right down, whenever my ping spikes between 200-300ms now through the server my FPS drops to ~5fps for a second.

I think, at least for me, once the servers are stabilised after launch it'll become a lot more stable.

I'm personally one for gameplay and not graphics and eye candy. I don't really care if I have 15fps or 95fps, if the game is good i'll play it as long as its not *too* unstable, and Vanguard is good. :p

Yeah, if you use diplomacy/crafting/harvesting the game will auto change to the appropriate clothing, or you can change outfits by a tickbox in the character screen.

This may explain a lot as my poor frame rate may just be down to server lag (I am sure it is not on my side as EQ2 is lag free) and not performance issues. I have never seen lag like this as it is not a case of rubber banding etc but a drop in frame rate. I was wondering why I was only getting about a drop of 3 frames when enabling volumetric clouds when by all accounts it should be 15. The lag may be so bad that what ever game settings I change will make little difference as my frame rate is already so low.

Is anyone else on Infinium having similar problems?

i would poke my eye out with a fork than play vanguard at the moment :D

You know Vanguard is not bad at all! Yes it has bugs but show me a mmorpg that does not.

The issues will be resolved in the coming weeks, stop making out its not playable.

And When will people realise that you will need a decent setup for the newer games on pc, I.e crysis - why cant I play crisis with my 9800pro etc.

If you want to be a pc gamer then prepare to upgrade at least your graphics and memory.

Obviously not mate.

Us PC gamers wonder why console gaming has become so popular. I could understand poor performance in a game with my setup if the graphics were absolutely next gen cutting edge, but you know what, they are not. Crysis it aint. The graphics look like a 4 year old game where the engine has been modded to add pixel shaders, hdr, bump mapping etc. The game looks good in some parts, but looks awful in others.

I am far from borderline and as I have posted it is running poorly even at the lowest resolution with lowest in-game settings. Playing around with the settings does not help. I have a very stable build and internet connection which has absolutely no problems in any other game apart from Gothic 3 (but who does not).

I have been checking up on the forums and there certainly does appear to be a performance issue. Because it may not affect some it does not mean it is not an issue. The blame cannot be placed with gamers but squarely with the developers. I do agree however that many times the gamer is at fault when they complain that performance is poor and then you find out they are attempting to run the highest settings on an Ati 9250 or something.

Graphically the game does not warrant the amount of PC power that is required. It can look very good in some places but too many of the textures appear either low res or artistically poor and the character models NPC's are fairly low detailed jobs. The monsters look like something out of a 4 year old PC game. There is a lack of graphically consistent polish. Yes the game has huge view distances but even with those turned down it does not make that much of a difference to my performance.

Before buying the game I was prepared for the performance issues and other bugs but I was not expecting it to be so bad. I think that they will be able to sort out the bugs but I suspect nothing short of an engine replacement will sort out the performance issues. I hope that I am wrong as this game has huge potential.

Runs fine on my 8800gts , ran fine on my x1900xtx and runs great on low settings on my laptop (x700 & 2ghz Turion)

That's just the thing, its running fine for a lot of you even though many people are experiencing difficulties. You just have to check out the other forums. Yeah I know forums are full of whiners, but usually you can tell when there are genuine issues with games. For a lot of us whom are experiencing problems with the game it is not our fault (not saying you are blaming my setup) but a problem with the game.

There has just been too much of this going recently with PC games - Gothic 3, NWN2 Las Vegas. I could go on and on, but the thing is I am not used to it happening to me. So that is why I am whinging. Heck it's only a game so I do not know why I am getting so ****** off.

Well fine to me is high quality at 1920x1200 and fps of around 50 ;)

Well I've just played a couple of hours on

AMD 64 4000+
2Gb RAM
256Mb X800XT PE

which these days, isn't exactly cutting edge, and been happily hacking away at 1280x1024 with HDR on. Runs fine. I think people should try and find a way to test the client on their system before diving straight in, it seemed to be getting very mixed results. Decent game so far though :)

Just curious, which had the best image quality? The 8800GTS or the X1900XTX? apprently the game was written exclusivley with ATI Drivers in mind, even though the game advertises Nvidia.

I've tried it on a similar spec to yourself:-

AMD 4000 Single Core, Asus A8N-SLi Premium PCI-E, Tagan 580W Modular, 2GB Corsair 2-3-2-6, HIS ATI Radeon X1950 XTX ICEQ 3, 19” Viewsonic VP191b

No problems at all, was very smooth gameplay - averaging about 40fps - more than enough for this type of game.
