**The official Vanguard Thread**

quick test on Infineum right now. pings around 400. server load = Medium (already?) But 2 gig certainly seems to help its a stable 20 fps most things on very high cept shadows and bloom.
Will try optimizing it later. Yeah that memory cache solution worked good for me reducing stuttering considerably.

Diplomacy is interesting hrmm...

edit: Please someone tell me there is a way to increase the font of the quests/training text?

Just curious, which had the best image quality? The 8800GTS or the X1900XTX? apprently the game was written exclusivley with ATI Drivers in mind, even though the game advertises Nvidia.

Hi
The game ran better on my overclocked x1900xt , it was super smooth... but that was on balanced settings, (was about 30-40 fps)

The GTS runs VG at high quality (looks sooooooo much better and around 40-50fps tho does dip to 25-30 in busy area's) i can turn up details and have things like volumetric clouds without taking a massive fps hit, but there is minor driver/game issues with the nvidia, mostly noticed when its raining or when going from night to day or visa versa. This is solved with /Flush command in game tho.

Well, following my post yesterday I bit the bullet and bought the game. I sneaked it onto my lad's dual core E6600 ATI 1950XT 2GB jobbie, maxed out all the settings and had a play. Then the little sod got home from work and demanded I remove the game. Oh well! My fault for not asking first. Or his fault for not using a power on password.

I really hate the Sony front end for getting into the game. I vaguely remember something like from an everquest trial I played for a few days some years ago.

I had no game killing problems. A few graphics glitches were there but changing viewpoint or moving a bit cleared them.

They are going to have to add an option to remove the "head bob" effect when moving around. I felt sick as a parrot after about an hour.

To be honest I need to play it a lot more to be able to form proper impressions but on initial impressions the graphics are nothing special - Oblivion is much better imho. Sound is unremarkable. Missions/quests are par for the course. This early on I'd say it feels like the early training levels of wow so far but not so good. (I haven't touched crafting and adventuring yet).

Apart from the head bob I see no reason not to play this little game for a while longer.

I was on an american server - Hilbury I think it was - the European ones were down for some reason. I fear Europe will be a poor relation technically in this game. Trouble is downtime (PST) is late morning early afternoon here. I will try to stick to US servers.

Now to see if I can free up the requisite 20GB (Twenty!!) from my older PC and see if I can get Vanguard to run acceptably on it at minimum specs.

There is an option in the settings called something like 'First person render' which you can untick to stop headbob.

I'm really enjoying this game, performance has improved a lot although I must admit that it still needs a lot of improvement. There are still loads of bugs and the European server downtime has been quite bad the first few days. Even with these problems though this is one of the best mmo games I've played in a long time. The scale of the world is fantastic, it really feels like a massive world rather than lots of small zones cobbled together. There are plenty of races and classes to choose from and on my pc at least I think it looks graphically great.

Well I bumped into Tical in game, was an um, interesting night wasn't it :D

Thats an understatement! :p

Who thought a little red line on a compass would have us spending 1 and a half hours crossing a desert, jumping off cliffs, walking headlong into a hostile city to insta die, swim a huge river, see you die (again) when someone attacked you and the guards finished you, then me accidentally falling off that massive cliff I went up.

Then finding out the red compass marker for that quest is bugged, and would have sent us to the other side of the world.

At least I avenged your death by waiting for someone to kill to come by before I recalled, wasn't the same person or race, but same faction at least! :p

Seriously? I fell off the same one before I recalled, but I hit land :/

you guys on the eu team pvp server then? there an OcUK guild?

Yeah we were on the Frengrot team PvP server, the Shadows of Kaerellun team. Daily just bumped into me in front of a merchant. Small world. :p

I don't think theres an OcUK guild, maybe we should make one? This game is loads more fun playing with other people. We'll have to decide which side to all play of course if people do want to.

Yeah, I got right up to the top to take a screenshot of that harbor city, walked to the edge of the cliff, and fell off while I was trying to get a good position to take the shot. :o

Opps.

Good thing was (or bad thing) I hit the side of the cliff near the bottom before hitting land, so I didn't die. Another bug we've encountered tonight to add to the extensive list. :p

It seems like theres a lot of SWG players moving to Vanguard. Grouped with two seperate people yesterday, both old SWG players waiting for their old guilds to reform. :p

Send me a /tell ingame when you start if you need help. Not that I know much at all about the game yet. :o

you have no idea, about 1/2 the posts on the infinity forums are now "im going to vanguard" hehe

and the consensus now is 1/2 are going to vanguard, the other 1/2 is waiting for lotro, conan, warhammer online etc

(suffice to say the mods are having a field day on some boards)

Hey folks!

I am going to give this a try for a little bit.

Anyone on the Infinium EU server?

I have just started as a dark elf on there.

If lots more people are on a different server I'll change.

I'm on Infinium myself (chose it over Gelenia because their pop was High and server seemed unable to cope well ie massive pings)

lvl 4 Paladin Orgad Shad though ive been spending time sorting my settings. Seems quite good so far. :)

I dont like the small fonts though. Im going to have a hunt around and see if there is a UI mod that makes speech text font bigger) Considering this is the main way in which you receive the story and hints, tutorials and help etc.
