**The official Vanguard Thread**

game runs like an absolute dog on my system about 1 - 20 fps.(avg 18 fps) Odd flashing white on textures as well. Way too much stuttering (due to accessing hdd) Though i do have it at 1920 x 1200 balanced 8x and lots of nice graphical effects.

Having to check out forums for game info because the manual just tells you the absolute basics...

Game is badly in need of a tutorial imo. At the moment theres nothing except a lot of icons.

pinging on euro servers still around 270 - 400 oh joy... (yep other online games work fine)

ehh? it took my visa debit card fine.

i meant proper ones like swictch/maestro, solo, not the visa debit version which is just caused by system confusion between the debit visa and the credit visa ;)

That was I waste of £30. Game runs like a turd on my system no matter what settings I try out. I tried minimum and maximum at highest and lowest resolutions and it does not make a hell of a lot of difference. I was really surprised at how mediocre the graphics are even at full settings, as the textures and character models look like something from a couple of years ago. I was expecting more as the screenshots I have seen looked very nice.

Lighting and the world design is very nice - shadows are horrible. I found a lot of very basic bugs unless I was doing something wrong like been unable to reset the control bindings back to default and been unable to remove shortcuts from the tool bars.

Other things like the animations are ugly and I hate the interface. I had to re-select auto attack each time I casted a spell but the problem is that it is completely random and combined with a long delay before attacking - you never know what you are doing. Your commands and action do not stack which daft for this type of number crunching combat.

Also if aggro re spawn while you are in combat you are done for as the sprint is so slow and the combat does not break off. OK at Newbie levels but later on with the death dept it could be well annoying.

As I have said the world is very impressive in terms of scope, scale and design but the engine is a turd and no matter what they try, it will remain a turd. I was expecting a unpolished diamond and not a unpolished turd. Sorry about all the turd references, but I am ****** off on wasting £30 and 6 hours of my time.

I can't wait till someone brings out a MMO on the 360 because at least you know it will work and will look good. I would even be prepared to accept the dumbing down for the price of polish and stability.

lag wasnt too bad later on. Ping got down to avg 200 which is better than 400 earlier on.

Theres a major problem with nvidia cards imo. Constant white flashing of textures on objects totally disrupts the immersion factor. Also there is the notorious pop up of objects in the distance (a la Oblivion) In fact Oblivion runs better on my machine than this does. I can get it to a reasonably stable 20 fps with most settings on high except shadows but thats only if theres not many people around. Completed a couple of newbie quests for armour but when i wore the armour it didnt appear on my character hrmmm.

i tried changing the cachesize from 32 to a higher value to help with stuttering and it seemed to help. see here for more information.

Still looking good though :)

Loving this game so far! For me personally its got the potential to be a great game.

What server/faction are you guys? Is there an OcUK guild out there anywhere? :p

EDIT: Oh dear god, on their new website they've got a list of servers, which include a "Language" column, all with an american flag. Do they think we all speak Americanish or something? Bit off topic, but I saw it and it bugged me for some reason. :o

That statements killed this game for me :( can't stand xp debt in games when you die, looks like I'll be giving it a miss. Shame really I was considering ordering it today :p

Could my low frame rates be a lag issue or is it due to general performance. Away from other players I get about 30 and around them it can drop to 10. Even when my frame rate is at its highest it still feels clunky and the mouse and toolbar buttons feel out of synch. I have never had any lag issues with online games before I am not quiet sure what to look for.

I reinstalled EQ2 last week after an absence of 1.5 years and its running great and have not had one second of lag. I have really had the urge to play a new MMO for a while and I was hoping Vanguard would be it. Even though I was only at the starter area I could see the scope of the world as being off epically immense proportions, something EQ2 completely lacks.

As things stand now I will not continue playing and will be cancelling my subscription. I may try it again in 6 months time but probably not as LOTR should be out by then and from what I heard of the game is fairly polished by beta standards.

you are never gonna have stability on release day, not to mention an abundance of lag....
I payed WOW on release day and it was very stable and without lag. I may have just been lucky with servers. DoD online was also stable for me on release day.

i can't get my head around how you can play vanguard and enjoy yourself performance is a joke the game is a joke  . imo eq2 looks better and I can manage a 30+fps .

It's undeniable that Vanguard is a hog right now for performance but with a decent enough spec it won't effect you. It's only when you're borderline minimum requirements that the game would be unplayable but this was brought up a long time ago in beta and it is something they will be working on.

couple of starter screenshots. Note the fps indicated looks worse than it feels and i was using only 1 gig of ram not 2 at the time.

Something else which could be a bug. It says that my paladin cant have more than one "inspire" ability active at a time but im sure i had 2 of them running at the same time.

I don't have the performance problems people are describing, and I'm using an x1800xt, an core duo 6300 and 2gb of ram. Don't have everything maxed by any means, but it still looks gorgeous.

I am getting that flashing texture thing occasionally though, doesn't seem to be nvidia specific.

Just installing this now, got it in town.

Little concerned that the min requirements ask for a pixel shader 2.0 card. I'm running an X800XT Platinum, which I don't think does 2.0, although I may be wrong, maybe its 3.0 it doesn't do?

Haaang on

How the hell do I pay for this with switch/solo/maestro?

Same here with my Cleric. These buffs have no duration limit yet when you cast one the cool down is about 10 minutes before you can cast the next one which is stupid as there gameplay balance reason for it.

TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO PLAY WITH SWITCH/SOLO/MAESTRO CARDS

It's just taken me bloody ages to figure this out.

Select Globalcollect as the payment method, rather than credit card. Then when you select card type choose Carte Bleu, and bob's y'uncle :p

Have fun!

I am far from borderline and as I have posted it is running poorly even at the lowest resolution with lowest in-game settings. Playing around with the settings does not help. I have a very stable build and internet connection which has absolutely no problems in any other game apart from Gothic 3 (but who does not).

I have been checking up on the forums and there certainly does appear to be a performance issue. Because it may not affect some it does not mean it is not an issue. The blame cannot be placed with gamers but squarely with the developers. I do agree however that many times the gamer is at fault when they complain that performance is poor and then you find out they are attempting to run the highest settings on an Ati 9250 or something.

Graphically the game does not warrant the amount of PC power that is required. It can look very good in some places but too many of the textures appear either low res or artistically poor and the character models NPC's are fairly low detailed jobs. The monsters look like something out of a 4 year old PC game. There is a lack of graphically consistent polish. Yes the game has huge view distances but even with those turned down it does not make that much of a difference to my performance.

Before buying the game I was prepared for the performance issues and other bugs but I was not expecting it to be so bad. I think that they will be able to sort out the bugs but I suspect nothing short of an engine replacement will sort out the performance issues. I hope that I am wrong as this game has huge potential.
