***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

Can you include process cpu time screenies as well please or it's not really valid.
In fact I think I need to come round to your house for complete conformation.

I dunno what causes more heat - Easyriders 'official' threads or Prime95 but just to clarify the way I test my cpu's :

1. cpuz screeny/superPI 1m = push it as far as it will go/max clocks for benching.
2. 32m SuperPI or occt 30mins for an indication of cpu stability
3. small fft's P95/orthos for 8hrs min (cpu stability)
4. blend for 12hrs min and 3d01 looped (24/7 use).

If you are making some sort of database then you need to all do the same 'test' otherwise things get confusing as a cpu that can run blend may not be able to run small, much the same as blend may fail whereas small may pass. Everyone has there own way of testing and there is no hard fast rule as to which is 'best' as everyones idea and need of what they deem stable. I dont see a database here nor do I see any 'rules' on posting so I don't see how anyones 'methods' can be deemed unacceptable.

I thought this was an overclocking thread and not an overclock and show me small FFT's for 8 hrs stable thread?

Learn to bench...oops I mean learn how to overclock, or do I mean learn how to run stability shots?

:rolleyes::o:(

All overclocks are welcome.:)

However small ffts will be useful to show max clocks and temps.

Small FFT generate the most heat and stress the cpu more than any other

test when using prime orthos etc..

I'm not saying blend is unacceptable...

Me
w3bbo
Devious
Fornowagain
Jokester
weescott
Big wayne

etc... all use small fft when finding the max overclocks of our cpu's.

It's widely understood and accepted in the overclocking community.

Meaning blend is not? Sorry if I misunderstood but it seems like thats what you were saying.

Basically, the way I see it is that Orthos is a big pile of nothing... I mean, what programs really stress the CPU to 100%...

According to Orthos my Q6600 fails small FFT's at 3.9ghz, funny how it'll run wprime 1024 stability test at over 4.1ghz & 32mb pi at nearly 4.1ghz... It will also run games & heavy rendering in photoshop at those speeds without issue... :p

I want to know why and how 8 hours became the magic number ? what if it fails after 9 hours ? does that make it an unstable clock ?

I usually do 12-13 hrs overnight.

I would certainly be looking at my rig if it failed after 9hrs.

But thats me.

People don't run stabilty test's and are happy being gaming stable.

Posting a 4.8ghz 8500 gaming overclock without a prime stabilty test is meaningless imo.
