Ok, just worked out my intended contract route for the iPhone

I will get the phone on the £44.05 contract for 18months for £87.11. Then after 9 months downgrade to the £34.26 contract for the remaining 9 months.

Works out at a total of £791.96.

Was originally going for the 24 month £34.26 contract as I don't really want to spend too much on the phone right now.
Pretty much what I was gonna do if on contract - the question is if the next iPhone comes out after a year will they charge you 6x£34.26 (as thats your current tariff at the time) or a different amount (6x£44.05?).

You do lose those 3 things though. Tethering I wouldn't be getting anyway, rip off, visual voicemail is nice but how many people really leave you messages? Call merging I doubt I'd use as well!
Youre totally right - those arent features that really appeal to me (Tethering surely can be done on the normal package and if you dont abuse it you should be fine no? Also Ive never heard of any use of Visual VM outside of considering the iPhone, it doesnt seem to be a vital app) - one good thing this time is that O2 have made PAYG versions available now rather than waiting 4months like last time...

Does anyone know how much picture messages are going to cost on the iPhone 3GS?

As with all other O2 monthly contracts (that means all phones O2 sell and not just the iPhone), sending one picture message reduces your text message allowance by 4 units. It's been this way on O2 for 7 or 8 years (probably longer) :)

Well I've still got 10 Months left on my 3G contract so I'd be looking at £420 to buy out my existing contract (including the monthly insurance) then for the 32GB 3Gs It's £274.23

So to upgrade to the new handset it's going to cost £700 + an 18 month contract at £42 a month...!

I think I'll just stick to the 3.0 update and hopefully by March 2010 we will be close to another update.

Geez, this is a nightmare.

Ive worked out my usage on T-Mobile for the last year and the most texts i have sent in a month was 1500 and 450mins. On average i use 1000 texts and 250mins.

There doesnt seem to be a plan to fit my usage - it seems to be all mins and no texts!

Any ideas anyone?

What about buying the phone on PAYG and then paying £20 p/m for an o2 simplicity tariff - 600m + 1200t and the option for an unlimited net bolt-on. Same price and more flexible over 18 months as the £35 p/m iphone contract, the downside is a big spend up front!

1000 txts = average of 32 txts per day

I recommend calling more ;)
