***The Official Yorkfield Q9300/Q9450/Q9550 Overclocking Thread ***

Yes, I would never refere to idle temps alone! :D

Have you done any scaling tests with your chip yet btw? I mean like did you set the vCore to the minimum and see how far your chip can clock?

Scaling tests are not everyones cup of tea as it requires more patience but I always find it useful and I am always suprised how far the chip can clock at well below recommended vCore.

Remember less vCore = Cooler Chip and less £££ on your leccy bills!

Think i might need to look up what scaling means to see if am upto it or not :)

hi there,

I just got a Q9450 today and i've just put it in and i seem to be getting different temp readings. I'm running it on a ASUS Maximus Formula with the 1201 BIOS...

I also use everest and it reports the same as core temp.

Which temps should i trust or should i try reseating the HSF??. I'm using a Thermalright Ultra-120 with Arctic Silver 5.

Thanks.

those are the same temps i am getting in my coretemp. i thought they seemed a bit high. as i have an antec900 case and all fans on medium setting. and a silent knight II, so i would've hoped for a bit cooler as people are saying they have 30c at idle.

Those are very high for idle and stock speed.

They're about the same as mine is at 3.8ghz and 1.38v under 100% load and water.

Has your BIOS set the correct stock voltage?

Yeah...i don't believe Core Temp as it obviously wrong. I touched my heatsink and its very cool. When i run prime at stock core temp says 60C and the heatsink is still very cool and there hardly any hot air coming out the back of my case. I'm overclocked to 3.2 now and temps are basically the same and everything is still very cool. I would use and believe Real Temp as it seems the most accurate you can get for 45nm CPUs.

My temps now at idle are 34/34/32/32 at 3.2 according to real temp.

What's a safe voltage for Yorkfield's?

I see you guys pumping 1.4-1.5V through them but Intel's recommended is 1.25V max so that seems pretty unsafe to me for long term use.

Intel also recommend that you only put 1.35v through the Q6600's....

I'm putting 1.38v through mine under load, but then it's clocked to its limit.

No, intels recommend max vcore for the q6600 g0 is 1.5v when using stock cooler. so its safe to say better cooling will allow for slightly higher vcore, 1.55v I would say.

People say that once you go above 1.4V you can get issues with degradation on 45nm chips.

Have been running the e8400 in sig at 1.475v~ for the past 4 months with no issues :)

Cob: Any updates? screenies etc?

How are you finding the Yorkfield? done any encoding or sat and used the machine for bits'n'bobs outside set-up/overclocking?

There is a Q9450 out there somewhere with my name on it, don't think I can wait more than another 2-3 weeks! :D

so do you reccomend using Real Temp for the 45nm Q9450? as my core temp readings were based on the Tjmax. being 105.

although in real temp i'm getting core temps of 37-40 at Idle.

as its the only real reason i stopped overclocking, as the temps were pretty high for what i expected.

I thought you was against wasting money??? it was not so long ago you was trying to persuade people to buy cheap but cheerfull dual cores i.e. E2160 etc etc. lol :D

I think the Q9450 can do more for me in less time and use less power (cheaper leccy bills).

I have run an E6300 since Dec 2006 so think it's getting close to CPU upgrade time, will sell my E6300 and E2140 and put that towards a nice Yorkie and undervolt it like a proper miser lol! :D

You can set Core Temp's TJ to 95c too so that it reads the same as Real Temp. Or you can just subtract 10c from readings with its standard 105c TJ.
