***The Official Yorkfield Q9300/Q9450/Q9550 Overclocking Thread ***

Running the 2.83 Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 with artic cooler 7.
Last night was overclocked to 3.83 stable but when restarting today vista hangs and then comes up with overclock fail in the bios.
Any1 link what settings they have been using to have a stable clock
fsb and voltage

ps mobo is a p5q asus board

Youd be best posting up a list of your components and the settings you used for the clock, ie voltages, ram timings etc, as i found, using settings from other systems isnt a guaranteed method as no two systems will be the same. Also did you test with an application such as p95 after setting the overclock? as this will show up any instability.

Topic necromancy time. :D

I might be a bit late to the party, but I'm currently having fun with a Q9650 on my EP35C-DS3R board (don't ask about the choice of motherboard, it was kinda cheap and I was a noob still when I bought it).

Trying for 3.9GHz atm, I know the chip is a decent clocker as the previous owner had it at 4GHz with fairly low voltage. All seems to be going well currently, about 20 mins into my prime run. :) will hopefully post screenshots later.

CraigN had it at 1.24 for 4GHz, currently at 1.26 I think (in CPUZ, my board has a massive vdroop).

Will try dropping mine down slightly later, just a 'quick dirty' overclock atm, but I'm still relatively happy given my motherboard.

I have a Q9650 running at 3.7GHz on an old Gigabyte board under an AC7 (at 1.325v), though I have a used P5Q sitting on the shelf. Does anyone think I would get much more out of rebuilding on the P5Q ? Have not got the cash to move to new mobo/cpu and RAM just yet, and doubt the benefit over this cpu would be worth it.

What temps are you getting under stress testing? (Prime 95 etc) I expect although the P5Q board could get it over 4GHz with good cooling the AC7 might start to struggle.

Also it seems one of my cores had a rounding error after 6 hours -_- will have another try later.

Temps are around 60 to 65 when stressing it (some time since I used Prime but 2-3 hours of Arma2 got it to 65 in the recent hot weather, about 61 max now it is cooler). Was thinking about a water kit if I do go 4GHz on the P5Q. I think the 965P board was good back in the day and I did get an E5200 two hours Prime stable at 3.8GHz, but the increased FSB, four cores (and all four RAM slots populated) of the Q9650 means anything other than booting into Windows kills the system with an auto restart.

Water kit might be overkill but something like the Akasa venom is a good cooler for under £40 and it's more than enough for clocking a Q9650 to 4GHz, depending how lucky you are and what your VID is you might get slightly higher than that.
