The oldskool rave music (early 90s) thread

I'm looking for more stuff like this, I was too young for raves so could only listen on the radio once a week to Stu Allan on key103 who used to play this stuff but back then we had no internet so no tracklists :(

Check out Slipmatt's World Of Rave podcast. He plays some really old rave, anything between 88 and 93. I wish he'd do more 93 - 95 stuff as that was when I went rhythm station in aldershot nearly every week.

This thread has brought back a long-forgotten memory of being at secondary school in Newcastle in the mid-90s. There was a rave club in Stockton-on-Tees called the Colosseum that put out mixtapes of their weekend sets. A classmate used to bring in knock-off copies of these to sell to us callow 12-13 year olds, which I played on a Sony Walkman at the time. :D

A number of the mixes are on YouTube - example.

Late 88 to the end of 92 was a once in a life time of endless raves and era defining music.
I have vague memories of Ibiza in '92 but I know I had a jolly good time. I revisited in '98 with an ex-forces mate and we couldn't hack it at all! 2 weeks booked and we were both done after the first. Was quite amusing to watch ourselves on MTV Europe smashed during a rerun of the previous night’s Sundance event on a TV the following day on a CRT TV in the hotel lobby. All I can rightly recall was banging back loads of sangria and doing loads of crazy games on a stage inside, followed by the main event on top of a hill out in the open overlooking San Antonio bay.

I've made some blunders in my life but being of age during that time, with what we did. Yeah. :)

Unfortunately I binned 100s of C90 mix tapes years ago. What a plum!

The Oldskoolrave reddit sub seems to be a gold mine for finding stuff

What the hell happened to rave though ? 30 years on Techno, Trance, House, Drum & Bass still going strong"ish" where did rave go/why did it die off ?

If I remember correct a lot of things changed culturally in the late 90's. New Labour came in and shows like big brother then the xfactor came about in other words reality TV, plus the internet was growing rapidly. People started to become hooked more and more online. Before that you were really in the dark and things like raves seemed ultra trendy, for the 'in crowds'. Can't say I was into that scene but I got the idea at the time.

I think extasy had a fair bit to do with it also.

First compilation I ever bought.
It was a 2x cassette box.
Only just managed to get it on cd last year for 8, the 3cd.

I chuffing loved the 90's and the late 80's. What this thread brings to mind is just how much fun I had back then and the potential that laid ahead of me. I really wish I could go back.
