The ONE AND ONLY ***OFFICIAL*** Crysis thread - SPOILERS!

I'm onto the VTOL flying section. Good God this really is appaling isn't it! It's as if I've suddenly started playing another game! One featuring a vehicle that can't fly properly!! It's about as responsive as a 747! Absolutely rubbish. How could the developers turn the best FPS ever into such a pile of poo!!!

Agree.

I thorougly enjoyed the first half of the game.

There was something incredibly liberating, challenging and just plain fun about planning how you were going to assault an enemy base. It was this freedom - and of course the actual fun of executing it - that really gripped me.

The suit options is brilliantly implemented and I just love what it allows you to do. Nothing quite like stealthing up on some enemies, and thiking: "Right, I'm gonna grab this guy, run out the building jump up and throw him through the roof, stealth and hide, wait for the remaining enemies to group and suprise them with a grenade followed by speeding up to them and smacking them up" :D You get the idea. I loved the fun in approaching the set pieces in the way I wanted.

And then things started to go downhill.

Inside the mountain was graphically amazing, but simultaneously one of the worst gameplay experiences I've had in a while. It's simply not fun being disoriented whilst fighting extremely rubbish floaty things. I got a headache. It really, really sucked.

And from then on it was more of the same. Far, far more linear, and almost made the suit controls redundant. That flying mission sucked. Well, it was OK but not great.

The cinematic qualities of the later stages in the game were undeniably great, however. I definitely enjoyed it. It just frustrated me that the gameplay took such a huge knock since I enjoyed the earlier parts so much.

Needless to say, Crysis is still a very good game, and the graphics (provided you have a decent rig) are truly stunning, and I admit I did spend a lot of time just saying "oh my god" at the screen. :)

sums it up for me as well

You gotta take the rough with the smooth!

I still think its an amazing game. Even with it short falls. Its like life, when you look back you always remember the good parts not the bad.

Couldn't agree more. Can't wait for my new machine and to be able to turn up the graphics and say "oh my god" at the screen.

How good will Crysis run on the following, as I am at work I cant try it out (and when im at work I live 60miles away from my PC  I wont be able to try the demo for a while)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4
HIS ATI Radeon X1900 ICEQ3
GeIL 2GB PC5300 DDR 2

As I don't get to use my PC much I haven't been into gaming for a while so I'm a late starter with this game really, and seen some of the screen shots is like wow compared to other I used to play. I am waiting for my laptop to come at the moment but I think I can dream on about playing this on it,
Vostro 1700
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250
17" Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Display with TrueLife™
3072MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
256MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT

Also any reasonable upgrades to graphics I could go for for my main machine, I can't seem to find any 1900's to crossfire with.

Dam a £100 upgrade, lol I paid $240 for that card last November oh how it hurts when you realize how hardware prices fall.

IMO the later half of the game with different gameplay came in just at the right time. Inside the alien space ship thing, it seemed the game wanted you to run (float) and get to the exit as soon as you could. These weird aliens were chasing you which made a bit of tension, and in fact I didn't go after the aliens so thisp art of the game wasn't tedious for me.
Fighting the aliens in the snow was pretty cool too. You still have the freedom and nanosuit powers, but the aliens try to surround you at charge at you, so it was pretty intense.

can someone please provide tips on how to fly the damn VTOL correctly so its actually useful?
Erm ...... no! Sorry, but it's just not possible. I'd fly better myself by leaping from the top of a very tall building with wings made of cardboard, my only defence against gravity, as I plummeted towards terra firma!!

:D

I really hated that level, it was a real chore.

Ok i cleared the game a while back but I'm now going to play it again on hard with a config but I've got a few questions.

1) Do i need to alter the gfx settings or will the config just override them anyway.
2) Should i play it in Dx9 mode or Dx10 (guessing 10).
3) I've looked at a few quite impressive configs which I'm going to try but as my gfx card wont as good as the GT's/GTX's will this affect perfomance.

I have played Crysis through some 30 times now. But I've only ever finished it the once, I normally stop playing at Awakening and play from the start again.

I do like the later levels, But it just felt like EA was forcing Crytek to gimp their game to avoid anymore delays, so they made the last few levels linear...

I'm currently playing on Hard, not Delta yet, I wanna get new PC parts before I do.

I'm also replaying the earlier levels over & over, mostly messing about in Relic as its a good mix of jungle /river etc.
I've fixed it so I can now replay levels on Delta & use previous saves as I can't face restarting from the demo level as I played it to death, lol
Also using an all ammo cheat for added fun, near a big outpost try using Devmode to get up high into the trees & throw down a grenade & Cloak & watch the bots try to find you, first 4 came running, then several more from the outpost & ended up with 19 below, first they group together & then fan out all around, if you drop another nade & uncloak then all hell breaks out inc the snipers in the watchtower, lol,

Ive just started the onslaught level where you drive the tank, absolutely appaling, thats enough for me, utter cack, get blasted to **** straight away, what a dire level. :(
