The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

You must be quite difficult to impress if you don't think what he's actually accomplished is worth any sort of respect or admiration. What does actually impress you? Who do you look at and think "wow they've really gone above and beyond"?

Musk hasnt gone above and beyond. He is filling his pockets while being an arse about it.

I was about to post about people that impress me but I realised helping people would be bad in your eyes if there wasnt a massive profit to be made.

When or if you watched Silicon Valley. Did you route for Gavin Belson by any chance?

Amazed at all the people who know better than musk. Have you all got brains the size of a small planet? Or a wide experience in an IT management role? Or just like criticism because it's easy?

Have you seen what he has been doing? Fair enough dont take the word of OCUK members but read the press.

He has just badly fired thousands of people and put a massive debt onto Twitter. Yeah great person love him to bits.

I am amazed at the amount of what I would call alt liters cosy up to people like this. You hate Twitter yet?

I don't claim to know better than him I just see what he is doing and respond accordingly. I don't need his level of knowledge to be able to see he has **** the bed from so many perspectives and just fails to hold onto that Tony Stark style image he once held.

If it helps think its like the time Mr Musk tried to muscle in on the cave rescue in Thailand and when he was politely asked to step back due to lack of knowledge of the situation he called one of the rescuers a paedophile. Who then took Elon to court. And lost.

Imagine that...slinging mud at some one who put there life at risk to help stranded children because you didn't get a chance to make it all about you.

But you're right...sometimes criticism is easy.

Far right activist Matt Walsh is having the sads because he's not special anymore now that anyone can buy a blue check mark.

He's also realised it's had no effect whatsoever on bots, and that Musk's idea of free speech is nowhere near as generous as Republicans had hoped.

A lettuce would currently be doing a better job of running Twitter than Musk.

It is a fundamental error to believe that because someone has succeeded and done things well in the past that they therefore must be handling the current situation well. I doubt doubt that Musk has done well in the past, or that some of the things he's done have been genuinely positive but you don't need any kind of deep knowledge or understanding to see what a mess he's making of this, you just need to pay attention.

My view is Musk is the classic high IQ low EQ narcissist and unable to view problems from another persons pov. This probably worked for him with Tesla and Space X because they are full of similar personalities and also the problems tended to be more engineering based ie there's a right way and wrong way and not much between.

With something like Twitter a social network it's the social side he's having problems with most of the engineering work has already been done. This is why he's massively out of his depth and too proud or narcissistic to listen to people that actually understand the area.

It won't be long before advertisers will start asking for him to appoint a proper adult as CEO and he can go larp as the CTO or something

This^^. He should have appointed someone like SpaceX coo Gwynne Shotwell from day 1.

? he knew and referred to the absence/dismissal of the team, because Musk wants to do it himself.

Thus the request for Vincent to read more carefully as that's literally what I referred to in the post quoted, the dismissal of the team.

TBF he does believe in it, he just doesn't believe in having a staff do it. He does it himself.

On the broader point no, I'd still disagree, he explicitly doesn't - as per the quote - I think the more appropriate term is "publicity" not PR, he's explicitly anti-manipulation and is quite clearly rather unfiltered, he's absolutely fine with publicity though. As someone else pointed out above, he's high IQ low EQ, I don't think he's particularly capable of manipulation... he can barely pull off dad jokes without making them rather cringe - see the sink! :D

He's public enemy number one, even when there's as war happening.

But of course people are bored of that, gotta get those clicks.

He is doing it all to himself. He isnt public enemy number one he just happens to be the biggest joke at the moment. The war in Ukraine isnt though so bringing that up in defence of Musks Twitter binfire is pretty offensive.

Everything he does is reported as front page news highlighting the negatives, he isn't wrong.

He loves the attention, he seeks it, he trolls for it and then when he makes blunders with Twitter he doesn't like the coverage? That isn't how it works and he's only getting negative coverage atm because of his actions. When he supplied Starlink to Ukraine the coverage was all positive. Even Elon fans have to admit its been a **** up from the day he put in his bid that was way over what Twitter was worth, his refusal to do due diligence and then his attempts to get out of the deal as he realised his mistake.

Also Twitter without the major media journalists is dead. What makes Twitter so great is the instant news. "Citizen journalism" sounds like a recipe for loons let loose with a check mark. We all saw his idea of journalism 2 weeks ago.

On a more serious note, in my view this is showing all the signs of someone who only has sycophantic “yes” men around him, stroking his ego, nodding like lap dogs to every thought he has.

I suspect that no one in his inner circle is prepared to criticise him and he appears to have removed most of the expertise who probably would have.

Imagine buying the social media company that has huge numbers of journalists and users that use it to follow the news and then being surprised that its gets massive coverage. And people can follow more than 1 story at the same time. The war is still getting lots of coverage. Elon clearly craves the attention he gets on Twitter.

Imagine being a Musk fan and being surprised and angry at all the coverage.
