The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Does anyone else want to put a bet in for the end of twitter+Elon?

What are people feeling? Can this make it until Monday?

What about December? Xmas? Not new year surely? What's your bets?
I think eventually he'll turn things around (or bail and declare it a Trumpian style great success). But it's going to be a hilarious and entertaining story until then.

This is hilarious... he's taking on some serious risk here, though if he pulls it off then yikes, some less capable Elon wannabes are going to cause chaos with their companies.

Is this one for real? That's an insane request surely? I've not bothered to check but it almost feels like parody.

If that tweet is a fair representation of a genuine Elon request, then it demonstrates that he simply doesn't understand computer programming.

The sheer number of lines of code that get churned through on a daily basis by just one developer working on the most mundane of projects isn't something that could be documented in the manner that this tweet suggests.

I mean what's he asking for? A single line of code is pretty meaningless in isolation. The responses he'll get are going to be the daftest of things like "I added a border to this square" or "I removed a reference to an object from this array by it's index".

Honestly, things aren't looking great if the reports are to be believed, and I'm definitely no fan of his, but even I'm having a hard time time believing that he would be asking something so ridiculous.

This must be a misrepresentation surely?

The staff cant get access to twitter hq building.

It's reported that entire teams took the 3 months offer, now enjoying the holiday reason off, fully paid, and out before the ship sinks.
. When you see all your other team going, and you know they are important and not easily replaceable, you go quickly too, knowing full well if you stay, you may not get paid any way if something happens, you will be working loads of over time for free, during Xmas period and for what? To save some rich billionaire from being less rich.

No incentive. Too many reasons to go.

If the reports are true and entire teams are just gone, twitter won't be able to continue as it had for much longer. It's vulnerable to attacks, and advertisers will know it's in no position to lose more ads, so they can get dirt cheap adverts now or leave and not see any noticeable difference in their revenue.

It's gotten to the point now I can't see how twitter can get out of the whole it's in.

That stupid ultimatum with 1 days notice was the final nail imo.

You've got to remember with those twitter staff, this isn't some rocket company, where the staff want to be there just to be part of the space exploration. Heck I'd take a big pay cut if it meant working at a company that was going into space and pushing those boundaries. Twitter staff won't have nearly as much attachment to twitter as a spacex employee would.

Perhaps this was a mistake Elon hadn't considered.

Musk is having a tough time as he struggles to explain the rules of his social media platform in a way that won't require him to admit that it's not offering the level of free speech he originally promised.

ofcourse its a meme-idiot on twitter farming likes, why would he want screenshots when they can copy and paste.

that's obviously just some twitter clown who only know how to take screenshots and probably thinks people code on a phone.

CEO couldn't just look at what code they had already written after getting their names right? you people believe some absolute guff, if it's on the internet it must be true

So what you’re saying is that you agree with me completely that it would be an insane thing for him to have requested?

Okay, thanks for that.

you people believe some absolute guff, if it's on the internet it must be true

Did you actually read my post?

Considering that my entire comment was regarding how unbelievable I found it that he would request such a thing, presumably it’s fairly safe to say that reading comprehension isn’t your strong point.

How embarrassing for you.

Its not a meme....

Wow. Thank you for the clarification.

@arknors post aged well then. What was that a lifetime of? Around 30 seconds?

The door is still swinging from people running for the exits with 3 months pay in their hands and he NOW wants volunteers from the remaining staff to explain how Twitter works.

What the actual **** goes through his head.

The ones left are the ones with no choice or some weird fixation with Twitter and or Elon himself. And everyone remaining is sabotaged in their job by entire departments around them resigning.

Why couldn't he have done "explain to me how it all works" before obliterating staff and morale.

How many times do you reckon he'll be told that the code they're sweating over was written by someone who had been with twitter since before sliced bread but it's too bad they were fired or quit 5 minutes ago.

yea and their source is the same twitter post... social media so it must be true...
double true is someone copy/pastes the twitter claim word for word to a supposed news site.

one minute hes bringing coders from tesla, the next hes begging randoms to code.

anything for likes, just make the rumour.

go on twitter and claim elons just put 500 software devs on a bus from spacex and you saw ikea unloading dozens and dozens of beds at the twitter HQ.

bet it makes some news sites

Erm, did you not see the previous request a little while ago where he had Tesla Engineers come into Twitter HQ and had the Twitter software people bring printouts of the last 3 months of code they'd committed so it could be reviewed in 1 on 1 meetings?

A twitter employee literally shared a photo of herself with the printouts, it seemed genuine enough.

He's not asking for random snippets this time though, he's asking for a brief list of what they've achieved and then to essentially send some of their best recent work.

It definitely seems plausible given his messages to the previous CEO Parag pre-takeover, from the court docs. "What did you get done this week"

I think he's making it quite clear he wants the most productive engineers and he's happy to cull most, he's taking a huge gamble but I guess he does want to change the corporate culture radically, the firm skews very left-wing even within tech that's a problem for him, he's already had some employees openly insulting him on the company slack etc.. it's going to need a radical cull and then recruit people who actively want to be there with Elon as the CEO.

Huge risk but he's making it clear how he's going to run things and giving people an exit so there will also be people like this guy who've happily accepted the severance too, he's not some anti-Elon fanatic type but this new regime isn't for him either and 90 days severance is nice enough I guess:

Fair enough, assuming it’s accurate then you’re probably right and that is indeed what he is asking for. But if so, it’s still a daft thing to request.

It’s the sort of thing you would expect an inexperienced graduate with a chip on their shoulder, waltzing into an established company to do.

It definitely seems plausible given his messages to the previous CEO Parag pre-takeover, from the court docs. "What did you get done this week"

Well yes, you’re right.

Having seen this it does seem plausible. But again, this exchange just makes him look incredibly dumb and out of his depth.

I was never a fanboy of his, i didn’t really hold an opinion on him either way, but in general I would have expected a lot more from him.

Seeing this stuff makes him look pretty silly in my opinion; it’s the sort of thing I used to see from brand new, totally inexperienced, low level managers back when I was corporate director.

Honestly, seeing these emails has really made him drop in my estimations.

Who knows? Maybe he’s operating on such a high level that his leadership style just happens to result in him acting in a way that someone hugely inexperienced and ignorant would do?

I guess we’ll find out.

Reminds me a post on reddit a while ago, "Is Elon actually a genius or a Dork that got lucky"...the latter option would seem favourable after watching this **** show.

Do you know what that chart tells me? The same thing polls tell everyone at every election. People with a collage /post grad degrees tend to lean left and vote Democratic. If it was just about the business you'd expect the opposite of that chart as the Republicans sell themselves as low tax, low regulation, even if that isn't strictly true. Even Tesla is only 6.1% and he's built that up over years. So good luck changing the cooperate culture.

Also most of those companies are quite likely to have younger staff, and they tend to lean democrat as well.
