I'd actually be quite glad for twitter to go
All social media (Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, TickTok e.t.c) would be a step in the right direction, so people have to go back to how it was. i.e IRC, Messengers, Forums.
It's funny that the moment Musk controls Twitter the establishment start spinning the "Twitter is going down" headlines.
For the third time on the BBC I've heard them have on someone promoting the Mastodon site.
I'd never heard of the Mastodon site until it was mentioned on here. Why do people think it will be successful when other platforms that were nearly copies of Twitter/Facebook failed, or at least never came out of their niche?

Are you unaware that the BBC is obliged to promote the "other side" of anything it's talking about.
No matter how stupid or small that alternate is.
It's how many idiots get airtime. The BBC has to do it.
They're still putting up IEA lackeys so I think it's still the case. This is no longer the case and hasn't been for a few years now.
It definitely is still the case. They make exceptions for some subjects though, like climate change for example. This is no longer the case and hasn't been for a few years now.
They suck. The end.
YOLO

Facebook and Instagram are another matter though, I've unfollowed nearly everyone on my friends list as they post some tosh. That said however, there's groups on both around local communities, history, art etc and I find them much easier to view than a forum.
no one thinks Mastodon will be successful, and it isn't designed or aimed to be as successful as Twitter. In fact, it is designed specifically not to be successful, as it is just an open distributed platform that cannot be owned and controlled by a single entityIt's funny that the moment Musk controls Twitter the establishment start spinning the "Twitter is going down" headlines.
