The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Yes he needs to be as a Republican candidate everyone needs to see all the dirt he's going to sling around about the others

I suspect if Trump wins the nomination they will very likely put him back on Twitter (if not already back by that point), can't really have one of the two candidates banished.

At the moment though it is perhaps a bit too contentious and he's got other issues to deal with.

I bet now elon owns in he's like "yea man, bots are people too, if corporations can be people why not bots?"
v. Riggs (203 U.S. 243 (1906)), the Court accepted that corporations are for legal purposes "persons

"the best" in tech is absolutely not working at social media companies or Twitter lmao

That’s nonsense.

Social media companies are at the absolute technological forefront of massive scaling.

They regularly attract some of the best talent in the business for that exact reason; because they’re working on problems that only a very small handful of companies on the planet have to deal with.

Scaling any online service to 1 billion users is an insane technological undertaking.

But, but, but roar said so

How long do you reckon it takes a new replacement programmer to reach the level of knowledge of the system of the people he's lost? Plus he's promising silly unproductive hours, no home working, and the threat of bankruptcy, it's not exactly an ideal setup for attracting the best.

This.

You can entice great engineers to work long hours with substantial RSUs when they believe the stock will have value and ideally grow, and they believe in the product vision and the corporate ethics. You can't entice people with stock in a company that looks like it will go bust imminently.

At best Musk could hire good contractors at crazy day rates, but this has problems in itself.

this just shows you how absolutely ignorant you are.

A 5 minute look at e.g. Facebook research team shows you hos their state of the art machine learning, especially NLP is pushing boundaries of science. It is pretty normal I come across a paper in NIPs from Facebook, Google, Twitter researchers. Just the other day i was reading a Facebook paper on graph neural networks using spectral convolutional networks for clique detection in social networks.. Social media invented whole you research domains.

Social Media companies are at the forefront of research in areas of machine learning and AI, scalability, responsive app designs, OpEx optimisation, softwares engineering practices.

I would argue that programmers at this stage are less important than the infrastructure and operations staff, I think pretty much every department taken a hit though, for what it is, it seemed to be way over staffed with them having a jolly time, looks like the gravy train has pulled up at its last stop :D

The problem is code ages unless you are on a isolated system (control system for nuclear power station etc.). Code needs to be constantly maintained, and once it is complex enough then few people will be capable, and by far the most effective people are those who developed it or at least have some experience with it.

Intellectually challenging, but you put ethical considerations aside with the ill's twitter/social media is delivering to society, moderation need etc. so, you are a mercenary, in it for the money.
(putting aside the AI data mining for targetting advertising)
best in tech would be working on Musk's / Waymo challenge of AI application in full self driving wouldn't be as morally conflicting.
Twitters a commodity/#metoo , we could switch Weibo in, instead , but, self driving that's ground breaking, that said, I think Musk's realised self driving is a difficult problem.

Musk's pre-text that we need this market square ... well news to him - within technical community people communicate fine without twitter, you don't need billion scaling.

I'd be embarrassed to admit I worked for twitter or Facebook.

all day you'd be getting ribbed about musk or zuckerborg
