Weibo Verification
Given that there are a large number of celebrities, media workers, enterprises or even government authorities opening accounts on Sina Weibo. Weibo uses a verification policy to avoid impersonation and ensure authentic information sharing (similar to Twitter’s verified accounts). Celebrities’ accounts are given an orange “V” badge, while organizations and companies’ accounts have a blue “V” badge. Aside from the “V”, a verification title will be shown on a users’ profile to describe the users’ identity.
There are several types of verifications, such as individual verification (celebrity, politicians, etc.), organization verification (government departments, social media platforms, and brands, etc.) or any account that is of public interest. The real-name certification is useful to differentiate micro-influencers and authorities from ordinary users
