The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

I think the bigger story is how much Saudi Arabia controls of Twitter (they are the ones currently blocking Musk's takeover bid).

Capitalism at its best, allowing a rival country to hold significant shares in a platform that is ruling the news arena.
It's owned by a foreign country, The USA. Also home to capitalism.

What do people use instead of twitter/fb?
reddit, there's not a lot of cross posting like on twitter so peoples opinions and thoughts tend to stay in their own space and not get attacked/trolled by people with opposite views or whatever.

reddits on some lame censorship quest seeking the $$$ though

The children trapped in the caves in Thailand. He says he's invented a mini submarine. Keeps saying they should use it, The guy leading the rescue effort says it will never work and will just get stuck and make the situation worse, Musk loses his **** and calls him a pedo guy. He could have just donated some money to buy equipment etc but no he had to be the centre of it all.

You forgot the part where the diver said the sub was 'just a PR stunt' and 'should stick his submarine where it hurts' before Musk called him a pedo guy.

Imagine saying that to Musk then trying to sue him for $190m in damages for being called a bad name

Twitter is good entertainment, endless ridiculousness for free. Any popular place with open registration will attract both good and bad, no different to GD.

It’s not twitters fault people take it so seriously.

Twitter just has too many people working for it that are in that California tech bubble who are basically blue haired otherkins who's opinions just shouldn't be taken seriously, they find their way into companies HR departments and make their personal politics become company policy with everything else being hate speech. I think Elon who is actually far more central politically is well placed to sort Twitter out so it's less of the echo chamber it currently is.

The internet is merely a series of walled gardens and no amount of idealism is going to change that because being tribal is the natural state of our society.

? except as bowdon said a principal shareholder is saudi - but, as to how, saudi may have influenced company direction so far ?
do twitter folks have a similar gospel truth news feed like facebook disciples - which can be directed by a Saudi-friendly algorithm

^^ This. The American right believes Twitter is an all-powerful deity capable of stealing presidential elections and destroying every value they hold dear, but when you actually look at the place, it's a cesspool of lunacy right across the political spectrum. But Republicans have never forgiven Twitter for banning Trump and some of their other heroes, so the prospect that it might be turned into a libertarian free speech absolutist fight pit has them foaming at the mouth with glee.

Meanwhile, here's disgraced former general and convicted felon Michael Flynn grovelling to Musk in the desperate hope that he can get his Twitter account back.

'We own the information space of free speech' but I just want my Twitter account back again. :D :D :D

Twitter is awash with porn and obscenity of every kind, so I think it's safe to say the Saudis aren't enforcing their cultural and political values on it.

Jeez, are these loons still pushing the stolen election lies. What a potato

Was he convicted?
He pleaded guilty, then when Trump's other people intervened in what was an utterly extrodinary chain of events he pulled his plea, then the Justice Department under Barr's instructions asked to drop the case.
IIRC the Judge was surprised and said he normally wouldn't have done so, and several of the DOJ prosecutors resigned in protest.

Basically he committed the crime and was willing to plea on it as he knew they had the evidence, until his boss intervened to get the charges dropped.

Saved by the twice impeached Trump who appreciated his work at the time.

A felon from one of the most corrupt regimes in decades. Tories "hold my beer"....

But Elon Musk has lots of money and he's implying the guys with less share than he has are controlling it

Clearly the guy with lots of money is trustworthy on this matter :)
