The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

maybe it's because i don't own a brand new tesla, but in my view, stuff like that for the most part isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

I think some stuff (like the odd tiny scratch or nick) is forgivable, because generally it is pretty impossible to transport anything of that size at volume without something possibly slightly scratching it etc. Every brand new car i have seen, has inevitably had some sort of minor environmental blemish. Also, the first time you drive it, it will get minor scratches and stone chips etc.

The wheel arch trim fitting and poor clear coat finish are really bad though. That is unacceptable on a £117k car.

That is a £117k car. I'd want it to be perfect. Imagine what its like in the bits you can't see if their quality control lets that past in the parts you can.
I didn't realise it was that much to buy one.

Fair enough then. I'd be miffed at that price

One of the silly things is, that AFAIK getting a good paint job isn't exactly hard (the paints and processes are very well understood), if the production line and staffing are up to scratch and even robots can usually do a pretty good job.

It is a big deal, not just because it's completely unacceptable for a >£100k car, but because it clearly exposes poor quality control at a corporate level.

Look at this video, where the guy compares a late model Tesla S to a 1990s Porsche:

Not only is the build quality far superior on the Porsche, and still holding up beautifully after almost 30 years, but the materials are all premium. The Tesla is a joke by comparison.

Now, I am not a Tesla hater, one of my mates has one and I've ridden in it and the experience was terrific. I have no complaints about performance, features, and ride quality. But I could see that the standard of the finish was nowhere near premium, and I was really surprised at how many corners they'd cut.

Here's another one:

Would I buy a Tesla? No, despite their excellent performance I think they are grossly overpriced. I'd rather buy an electric Hyundai for ~60% of the price.

I will say one thing for Andrew Tate. He certainly took the heat off Musk for a while and ironically unbanning him got him blasted on Twitter by a young woman.

A glorious few moments in time when the stars align. It was probably the best decisions Musk has made to take heat off his own failures.

Elon Musk has suffered the biggest loss of wealth in modern history, with his net worth dropping by more than $200billion (£166bn).

The billionaire, who recently took over the social media site Twitter, lost over half of his fortune over the last 13 months.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk’s net worth declined by $208billion (£172bn) – roughly the same as the annual GDP of Greece. That amount is also more than the total net worth of the world’s richest person, LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault.

And have a car stuck at at 100 ish mph top speed?

All the important things are well at Tesla:

Acceleration & topspeed.
Battery performance.
UI/UX
Ride quality and handling.
Seat comfort.
Audio.

I've driven e Kona E and a Niro-E and their handling is terrible in comparison, it's very bad to chuck in corners and ESP kicks in so drastically once you get a little bit of wheelspin. It's noisy as well, more than my Cupra. Hyundai is terrible aswell if you need to replace the battery pack (Kia did that much better).

Quite frankly at this moment a Tesla model 3 and Y are the only affordable full electric cars whose performance doesn't suck. Everything PSA and VAG have is **** performance wise. BMW & MERC only have overpriced & underperforming EV's afaik. I have more faith in the Chinese players than the classic car manufacturers.

But I guess each to his own, stuff like the interior trim materials or panel gaps, I couldn't give a ****.

None of that matters when you floor it or chuck it around while blasting some nice music! I just look at cars ''how fast do they go within x budget'' and of all EV's, Tesla wins hands down to all of them.
