The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

You aren't going to post FB links are you as that is mainly a personal platform where as news sources use Twitter, well they have been, who knows what is going to happen in th ecoming months.

The majority will pay because it drives customers, and it's an insignificant amount to them for the customers the gain, very little will change.

I'm looking down the list of news corps in America and they all have yellow ticks, CNN, Fox, ABC etc etc. Seems like it's only the NYT that is refusing to pay

Perhaps its the NYT that is misjudging this eh

People will just end up unfollowing NYT, going somewhere else for the news. No shortage of it on the platform.

Or more likely that Twitter has to remove things manually after shedding loads of critical people.

Also pretty easy for them to just remove that total from their advertising budget so Twitter gets nothing new.

What is there to misjudge? They just don't want to pay for a trivial icon to be put next to their name on a social media platform.

Those could be from his plan 2 of blue tick nonsense, we're now at something like plan 4.
IIRC plan 2 after the initial obvious nonsense happened when he allowed anyone with $8 sorry $11 (I forget he didn't know the basics of the app store) to spare was to give companies and organisations a different colour, certain politicians a third colour etc.

They don't seem to have actually started removing the legacy ticks to any great degree yet, and apparently it could be a real mess as there was no system in place to remove them in bulk as it was never considered to be something that anyone would be stupid enough to want to do.

[edit[
And to make things more fun Twitter is now displaying a message for blue ticks saying they're either legacy verified or twit blue subs, so there is now no way to see if a blue tick is actual verified or "throw a dollar at the twit" verified.

How is it trivial if everyone else is paying for it? Clearly it's not trivial. There is value there if AP, BBC, Post, CNN etc all are signed up and paying for it.
People will go somewhere else for the news instead of NYT i'd of thought. NYT will just shoot themselves in the foot

Oh really? where did you read this?
If that's the case then it'll be interesting to see who follows suit.

i like your feed too ser and think you are very misunderstood, if people really understood that you are more or less trying to make a check and balance for the direction of the world that you see as quite negative for humanity they would understand your perspective much better

IIRC it's been mentioned by ex twitter employees that there was no coherent/easy to use way to remove it as it wasn't planned to be pulled in bulk.

Certainly given Musk stated that he would remove the non paid ticks from the 1st you'd have assumed that they would be gone, or disappearing in bulk if it was something easy to do.

Don't suppose you have a link? i follow a number of current twitter engineers, i havent seen it mentioned.

It's interesting that NYT books, arts, travel, world etc...all have gold ticks though.

It hasn't kicked in yet, he's just making an example of NYT and removed theirs's early because he's a petty child. They aren't the only ones to say they aren't paying.

How do you know this? Where have you read it?

I follow a number of accounts where the blue tick has changed to gold. Gov officials have changed to grey

IIRC that was happening weeks ago if you went to their profile as for a while under the genius plan you had accounts that were blue tick (which could be anyone) and also the emergency coloured tick to indicate that the accounts were major organisations/government agencies/companies.

Highly amusing

Ten thousand of the most-followed organisations on Twitter will be exempt from the rules, the New York Times reports, citing an internal Twitter document.

The petty demands won't apply to organisations or people who don't need Twitter but generate massive engagement without shouting at Twitter engineers to inflate their numbers.

If you're a wannabe or just too small well you have no leverage so pay up.

See, Elon does know who creates the product on Twitter.

To recap: these are the new #Twitter badges, and to be more easily distinguishable they will have both a different color and shape.

I've literally seen some ticks change over the last 24 hours. But if they are doing a lot them manually, then for sure it'll take a while to get through them all
