The fact that they've blocked everyone not signed in from viewing is a nightmare. Completely ruins the threads on here that rely on it for updates.

It completely undermines the reason for Twitter's success. It's a comparatively small social network, but because it is public it has been used by politicians, journalists, businesses, governmental organisations, etc. for serious announcements. The moment it is gated, it's value for doing that craters. This was already sharply worsened by the blue-tick fiasco.

Elon doesn't understand what he bought.

Hes made the news and his tweet is embedded in news sites, meaning it’s getting an obscene amount of views. What isn’t to get? Do you think views for this tweet translates to some kind of profit?

60m views on this, I bet he's laughing because he applied a view limit on Tweets and Twitter exploded. He's telling people to log off Twitter and go outside while sat watching the active user count increase.

Of course active users translates to revenue. Both ad revenue and increased purchasing of Twitter blue.

That ain't 60 million views of people logged in or viewing ads - the site is pretty broken right now and if you try to do a lot of things Twitter related you end up at:

This is going to cause more harm than good for Twitter, it is on thin ice right now but the momentum is slowly turning away from it and if the dam breaks it will go quick.

Gotta hand it to Elon, it's a great plan.

1) Over-pay for Twitter.
2) Claim that you're a free speech absolutist.
3) Claim to want to make Twitter a free speech zone.
4) Un-ban then re-ban a bunch of previous rule-breakers.
5) Stop paying operating bills.
6) Start paying some operating bills.
7) Start limiting engagement, when engagement is kind-of the raison d'être of the whole deal.
8) ???
9) Underpants!
10) Pancake?
11) No, just underpants.
12) ???
13) No profit at all!
