Haven’t paid too much attention to the Musk takeover scenario. I’ve been a casual/occasional browser of Twitter for the past couple of years, mostly looking at news or political commentary. What I can say is that I’ve definitely noticed an influx of dodgy content since all of this kicked off… I’ve just clicked a random, unsuspecting video of a woman getting beaten senseless by some guy. Between that and the bugs on the app, I’ll be giving it a miss for the foreseeable.

Elon on board with stopping under 24s from voting unless they can pass a test. I wonder if this has anything to do with under 25s mainly voting Democrat? Also with US history of using tests to stop blacks voting it stinks.
I’d hope those not allowed to vote would also be exempt from paying any taxes.

I'm fairly sure they had some little scuffle a few hundred years ago with regards to paying taxes but not being able to have a choice in their rulers.

I'm also fairly sure that looking at the guy proposing that would not have been allowed to vote himself in the US not that long ago, and only a few decades ago would have had to sit one of those "tests" to vote and never passed it, the idea of passing a test to be able to vote has a long and not very good history in the US. US constitutional scholars of the time couldn't pass the test* intended to make sure that the "lesser folk" were smart enough to vote, oddly enough people that looked like Musk never got forced to take one.

*Literally impossible to pass some of them.

I'm kind of always reverting to there should be some kind of fitness to vote test.
I mean people are voting with no proof they have any idea at all about the impact of policies, realistic outcomes (see Brexit) etc.

Problem is it would so so easy to skew any test to suit certain demographics* that having a fair and keeping a fair test would be a nightmare.
Eg it would be super easy to have questions that suited younger or older voters.

My mother for example didn really do any academic studies at school since it was highly unusual for girls to. It would be difficult in that case to bring in anything that really required that background.

IMO its more likely the over 60s, especially 70s are so out of touch with the modern world. Yet they are far more likely to listen to nonsense about EVs, solar, heat pumps etc.

If they are going to make a civics test a requirement it should apply to the whole population. That could become a problem for the over 65s.

If the US wants to bring in a law it should be like Australia, everyone is required to vote (we should do this in the UK as well) That is the last thing Republicans want though. Trump himself said in 2020 that if they made mail in voting easier Republicans would never win an election again. Tells you everything you need to know. If you can't beat them, stop them voting.

This is just about stopping people voting for the other party. I better solution would be to make everyone vote like in australia.

It's always a great day when Elon reminds everyone he hates everyone else's freedoms except his own.
He just wants free speech* and to save humanity**, it's not his fault if not everyone can understand the 55D chess he's playing.

*Cheap at only $8 a month ($12 if you use a platform he doesn't understand).

**Well the rich and people he likes, the rest of us can learn what a company town and indentured servitude is, with the threat of 2 hours W O O if they don't behave on his Mars Colony.
