The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Is campaigning for someone to be sacked from their job "being mean" to them on social media? Like if someone were to do that to any of us, we'd probably feel extremely angry since it's our livlihood. I'd say it's rather egregious actually.

Welcome to social media and free speech, something you are a massive fan of. You can't have it both ways.

I'm sure if you were posting comments that compared how you were treated to the Jews in the Holocaust and these posts were pointed out to your employer they might take issue with it and they'd be perfectly entitled to end their association with you. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences.

This case is pure culture wars by Elon, it will lose and lose big but he doesn't care about that, he's a proper little culture warrior now.

What makes you say this?

Because he frequently comes up with new ridiculous ideas of doing something already invented, but claims he can do it 10 times cheaper and more efficient, so investors buy Tesla stock which increases the price and makes Musk richer, then Musk fails to deliver and it turns out he was lying the whole time and he's done this at least half a dozen times

Just one example: a few years ago Musk was claiming Tesla Model 3 owners would earn $30,000 per year and that people who don't buy the model 3 are idiots because the car will print money by working as a robotic Taxi in 2 years.. this was several years ago and model 3 owners aren't getting any money. Musk at the time said this will make the model 3 sell millions and millions of units per year and make Tesla the biggest car company in the world, which turned out to all be a lie. It's 2024 and Tesla cars can't even drive in a parking lot without hitting something and Musk's claims artificially inflated his wealth by increasing Tesla stock price and Tesla is in fact losing market share, not growing to become the largest company as Musk claimed.

I'm fairly sure he did reply to that, but none the less, it's pretty obvious she is ......................

Your problem is, my point wasn’t a lie..................

In slow, simple to understand words - ICDP posted at least three times that "Carano compared treatment of Republicans to the Holocaust" and yet in reality Carano did NOT say "Republicans" once in her tweet, which is displayed for everyone to read proves - instead, ICDP and anyone else is simply "assuming" she meant "Republicans" based on their own biases (maybe right, maybe wrong) of her, but once again in her tweet she did not say "Republicans" in her tweet and anyone who says that she did is telling a lie, plain and simple for even a child to understand.

Anyway, by now its fairly obvious that you guys believe its OK to lie, as long as the lie is about someone you disagree with of course, so I'll leave this here as there's no real point talking any more with a proven liar and those who defend those proven lies.

However, the second either of you can highlight the word "Republicans" in her tweet which proves that you aren't lying about what she siad (rather than your own assumption), I'll happily apologise.

You keep convincing yourself she wasn’t referring to right wing republicans like herself when she was comparing being victimised for political views, to the persecution of the Jews.

So every single tweet needs to be taken in isolation.
Said no sensible and logical person...

ever.

It's just simple inference though.

Ok, she did not literally used the word Republican but that is who she was talking about. That much is obvious.

It's therefore kind of just pedantry to make a big deal about the exact wording used.

Accurately reporting what the tweet said vs guessing what someone else may have been thinking inside their own head is and then telling everyone "this is what they actually said" based on that guesswork is..................pedantry?

There we have "we don't share the same reality" in a nut shell. Some people look at words as they are written/spoken but think its 100% OK to make things up instead and then report those made up things as if they were a true reflection of what was actually said, which then inflames a whole bunch of other people who believe the made up stuff because it matches their biases. Other people look at the words that were actually used and can't understand why so many people are spreading an obvious lie. Both sides think they are the only ones who are correct and the other side are making things up.

This "we don't share the same reality" is endemic and its been getting worse and worse over time and all it takes to break that cycle is dropped our biases, but thats just not going to happen is it?

So every single tweet needs to be taken in isolation.

Absolutely not, and thats not what I've said.

What I've said, and people deliberately keep ignoring, is that ICDP repeatedly said something that was factually wrong based on their "guess" about what Carano really meant, rather than sticking to what was actually said instead, because of IDCP's own biases. They didn't ever present this as "I think she meant.............", "I assume she meant......................" or "She was probably......................." etc which are all valid forms of saying "I'm just guessing" and wouldn't be an issue, but they didn't, they said "She has said.................." or "She's compared..................." as a statement of fact and pointing that out - that making things up and reporting them to be true is bad - has caused quite a lot of people, who I think probably share a similar viewpoint on this, to defend ICDP like you're doing now.

Again, I've not complained about people saying what they "thought" Carano was thinking, they might eb right or wrong, I've only complained when people have repeatedly stated as fact what they "think" based on guesswork, especially when Carano herself specifically said that isn't what she meant. Again, if it matches their biases then some think its OK to lie, I don't.

So then history would tell you what your saying is nonsense.

Her history of "exchanges" with the left is quite well publicised.

Her "thats not what I mean't" sounds like chickening out as opposed to standing her ground. She probably realised she had gone too far.
Or maybe she should say what she means and not be vague to leave things open to interpretation.
Because when you have taken a historical position on something (logical) people are going to assume your being consistent with that when you start tweeting.

Its not lying, its a very strange position you have taken here. Its the logical assumption.

You basically excusing the sorts of thing Trump would so, I didn't specifically say X therefore you cannot say thats what I meant. When its bloody obvious what he mean't.

Of course it's what she meant.

Dumb thing to compare things to the holocaust. There is nothing comparable. Yet.

Now saying that, her point about dehumanising people is a fair one. Even if you don't agree, don't see them as less than human - that's one ingredient of the recipe to going down the same path.

Dialogue and compassion, while difficult, will hopefully allow us to avoid future horrors.

America they seem to relish in dehumanising each other for some reason.
I guess thats what happens in overly toxic politics

Elon Musk Says Starship Will Make It To The Moon In Less Than 5 Years

Now where have I heard that before.... oh right in 2017 when Musk said:

Elon Musk to Send People to Mars in 2024

That's right guys and girls, we went from man on Mars by 2024 to test ship with no one onboard on Moon by 2029

Just another day on the Elon hype train, Choo Choo.

I wonder how NASA feels given they signed a contract with SpaceX to put their astronauts on the Lunar surface next year and now Musk is saying, maybe we can do it in 2029

Musk didn’t build SpaceX to get man to the moon. NASA and congress are to blame for missing deadlines. HLS Starship was the only option they could afford because SpaceX are covering most of the system development costs for their own business. They chose the highest programme risk option because it’s all they could afford. If they wanted speed they would have chosen an Apollo reheated approach using twin SLS.

Musk is always bullish over SpaceX timelines but they generally deliver. Within a few years he’ll be providing low latency internet direct to phone for most of the planet and raking in cash. That’s the goal of Starship not Artemis. Then on to Mars.

Tesla is covering most of the cost. Musk pumps Tesla stock, then borrows money against Tesla to pay SpaceX bills. Round and round the ponzi goes

Generally deliver? Like the fake solar roof tiles? Like the fake hyperloop? Like the fake flying car? Like the fake Robo taxi? Like the fake Robo trucks? Like the fake Solar roadways? Like the fake FSD? Like the fake boring tunnels? Yes I'm sure he'll deliver any day now ;)

Also "bullish" is one way to describe a con artist. I guess Elizabeth Holmes was just a bit too bullish then
