The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

nightic has just received 2x CABYE 0540 FPAW and the first one booted in at 3ghz with 1.45v in BIOS. :D

Very nice, can he get anymore is what we really want to know, 3Ghz seems wasy with the 0540s but not seen anyone stable at 3.1, even with the voltage ramped up.

He's having trouble with 3.1 but i'm sure he'll post later and let ya know. He is doing reasonably shoddy mounts with generic thermal goop though. :)

pmsl, ive only just noticed the fan on my artic freezer has only been running @ 1600rpm, few settings in the bios and now @ 2300rpm, thats a few degrees of my temps, will deff try for 3.1ghz when ive finished with the 144 :D

edit: the cab2e is straight in @ 9x280 on stock volts & idle 31c

Hi im a complete and utter noob to overclocking (but an enthusiastic one!!!)
I have a 146 which my brother stuck in so i don't know what stepping it is. but got it yesterday so thinking cabye. running an epox np9a+ board and 2gb geil value. I'm looking for a mild stable overclock and have read the noobie guide. anyone got and safe setting I could start with? or anything glaringly obvious you guys know that you think I wont?
Cheerz guys, and don't take the **** everyone starts somewhere! lol.

rich, you say the cabne is the best stepping but how? only early ones hit 3ghz and are rare, the latest cabne 0540 can only do 2.7-2.8ghz? similar to a cabge.
as for best value, my 146 & 144 both cost me £100 each so the 146 is best value :p

I meant the early ones, and I made that post before I had seen the results of the 0540 batches... it's from a good few pages back. ;)

lol np, didnt know if it was a recent post or not :p
i think in general, the cabye is becoming the better stepping to have,
even the early cabyes clocked quite well and the 0540's are even better :D

back to clocking this cab2e, currently on 2.65ghz 1.45V :D

I received my Opteron 150 earlier.

I was initially a little dissapointed due to the talk of cabbages being duds and mine was indeed a cabbage (CABGE?).

BUT!!!!!!

I installed it, wacked it up to nearly 2.9GHz with voltage still on auto and then grinned from ear to ear! :D

It would be great to break the 3GHz barrier but I think I will be satisfied and leave it like this it is already faster than a £700 FX57.

I guess I either got lucky or CABGE can be good I dunno maybe only the 150 cabbages are good, they must surely be of decent quality to be selected as 2.4ghz part operating in extreme mission critical conditions.

The 150's have been getting great clocks... it's just they cost about 2.5x more than a 146... making them completely useless from a value perspective. Way too expensive. :)

Ah right and there's me thinking it was my lucky day. :p

Yeah I don't mind buying the more expensive stuff, just not the ridiculously expensive stuff (FX55/57/P4 Extreme etc.)

Plus I'll be making use of the 11.5/12 multi to keep my memory at optimum speed.

I can't get my 146 over 280 x 10 :( I have the ram on a 4:3 divider but anything higher than 2800 wil not run a 1mb superpi or a full 3Dmark05 test.

It is probably my mobo. Increasing the voltage doesn't make any difference and doesn't greatly affect temp.

Opteron 146 CABYE 0540FPAW.

2.8ghz (280x10) with 140 Divider (memory at 196mhz 2-3-3-7-1T) @ 1.42v. Stock cooler, stock thermal pad. Going to stick at this for a bit untill I get some better cooling on (watercooling when I can be arsed). Idle 40'C, Load 52'C. OCCT Passed and I will Prime it overnight.

Could you 144 CAB2E owners tell me your batch numbers please? (last 4 numbers on the bottom line).

Would be interested to know which ones are clocking better.

Edit: Particularly interested in yours ken if you could take a look for me. ;)
