The "original" Far Cry game.

Yep I loved this game. The island is stunning. Atmosphere and challenge is great. Also I loved the way the guns worked. Just seemed sharper than modern games. Great gun play.

For me, it's one of the all time classics. Those vivid colours in the jungle and having to think about taking down the groups rather than running in. And then, I remember bricking myself when those other things started appearing.

Still great, even after all these years.

This along with HL2 were the first games I played on my first built PC and blew me away at the time. I was pretty shocked how dated it looked when i played it again a few years ago.

I remember how difficult the game was even on easy. I just couldn't get it at the time. Had to use some cheap tactics to get through some sections of the game and I think I never completed it.

Oh FarCry, I won some money when I was younger and bought a PC, bought FarCry to go with it, loved the game until monsters started appearing, which put me off and once the starting going invisible I lost interest completely and never played it again, shame because it was brilliant until then

Same.
I think I got to the level that just reminded me of Jurassic Park and quit in rage. It looked amazing but when it went invis-monsters it was just silly.

Also, Malevolence. Not fired up Project: IGI in years but I do own the 2nd one on GOG. I'll have to get that out and dust it off!

Never been a fan of invisible monsters in games - always feels out of place. Hated the invisible ninja things in HL but atleast they had sound and other gameplay cues you could use.

I loved it but don't recall it being overly difficult. I completed it and couldn't wait for the second, then was very very let down :(

I'm still stunned to this day that anyone at the developer/publisher sat down and played through FC2 and then said right lets ship it. With even some relatively small gameplay tweaks it would have been 10x better as a game.

EDIT: The story pacing was way off as well in FC2 - there are a lot of elements that flesh it out a lot better but they are spread around disjointed to the main gameplay flow so you don't encounter them/don't encounter them in an order that would make the best use of them.

Most likely publisher deadlines.

I played this game on the hardest setting as I do with all games and it took me a good 3 weeks to finish it and in the end I hated the game so much I took the disc from my machine and snapped tit in half promising myself never to play it again . Was hard as hell and a challenge but one that I really did not want to do again.

I don't remember it being too difficult when I first played, not easy but not impossible.

I've got the steam version now and it feels like the games broken, bad guys can hit you from anywhere, LOS and cover make no difference, everyone in the map irrespective of location can and does shoot at you.Even in the corridor sections they shoot through the walls. It's like playing against a team of hackers.

I'm sure it wasn't always like this, it's not fun.

Sounds broken - when I last played it (off disc install) the only time it was anything like that (and no shooting through walls) was if you alarmed a guard and didn't kill them quickly enough - then the rest of their "team" would be ultra aware of you even when you couldn't always see them due to foliage, etc.

Far Cry would be right up there in my all time games list.

It was my first proper PC gaming experience and the first time I drove straight to PC World for a new graphics card as I couldn't wait.

Only game I can think of that I've played through 3 times too.

LOL first time I think I bought a graphics card from there as well and the last - got home in anticipation to play the game too impatient to get one delivered, and the GPU didn't work. Fortunately managed to get one through where I was working at the time.

Now you mention it, that explains a lot. I'm trying to get into the camp (following the hang glider trip) and even if I'm inside one of the tents or sheds, that helicopter gunner still seems to be able to shoot through the walls and hit me. Looks like I'll have to take the gunner out before going any further. I don't recall this happening when I played this game from a disc yonks ago. Still, makes it more rewarding when you finish a level.
