The Orville : New Horizons

Seems like this weeks episode was the 'Alien' homage.

Also borrows from a few other ST:NG and Voyager episodes.

Some great design on the alien base and ship - I must admit, with the base looking like that I'd have turned tail and run as soon as I saw it

The only issue for me is that the aftermath seemed a bit muted, considering they just lost a bunch of crewmembers.

Still very much enjoyed it and good to see some lame jokes are back!

Also possibly slight nod in the direction of The Expanse, too.

Mixed feelings about the new style though, reversed from being a light hearted parody of the space sci-fi genre to full on quite dark attempt to becoming a fully fledged member.

There were flashes of humour that made me chuckle. Bortus saying stoically 'I am prepared' when informed he might get the sniffles, and Isaac willing to discuss some very personal details about the doctor with the admiral.

I just felt the ending was a bit out of kilter with the rest of the story. Needed to be a bit more sombre.

Biggest gripe. Yes, it's got a breathable atmosphere but why would you not wear a helmet in case of pathogens?
Indeed.
And back on the ship, why was the Admiral not kept in strict isolation? In fact to continue the Alien analogy earlier in the thread, they broke the first rule of quarantine (don't let them on the ship), failed to keep him adequately contained/supervised, then at least initially were tracking down a potentially hostile mutation with no weapons whatsoever. Still at least it cut out the by that stage rather tiresome cliche of the horny old guy trying to get inside the pants of his ex wife/flame (the doctor).

I have come to the conclusion the Doctor wouldn't be missed if she were replaced, and her Kids are just stupid and are constantly the ones causing trouble. Honestly they never do what they're told, always do the wrong thing, Doc and the kids shipped off to some remote starbase please.
