I did, for a while at least, go completely desktop free. By that I mean I used a solid black background, hid the dock, used menu shade to hide the menubar and then used Quicksilver to control everything. Uber geeky but it gets right on the nerves after a while. I would post a picture but I am assuming that you all know wht a solid black desktop would look like so instead I post a video of how it can all be done.
