The Outer Worlds (Obsidian)

Just because its short, doesnt mean it sucks.

amount of hours played doesnt equate to a epic game.

quality over quantity and this was my fav game last year . Or at least one of them. Just shy behind rd2 which ironically again was a 25h-30h game too..

Last of us 2 is a masterpiece and again only 20-25h game

I've never said it sucks, I really enjoyed it. I just think it's criminally short for the type of game it was especially as an RPG. RD2? My game-time on that is currently 45 hours and I've not completed it, have lots of side missions to do and I've not even attempted the hunting etc.

Not all games need to be long, I'm not even against games with short campaigns like Call of Duty or other shooters.

I actually liked that it was a game that I completed fairly quickly and didn't need to devote tens/hundreds of hours to get to the end of but when I saw it was made by the makers of Fallout I just assumed it would be longer than it was. Probably my own mistake for not looking more into the game and realising what it was but from the time I did have with it, i really enjoyed it.

But it was too short that I can even think about buying the DLC for. And I didn't even pay for it.

This or mass effect Andromeda?

Replying to my own comment having played both games... Have tried to get in to the Outer Worlds but just can't click with the universe and theme - I just am so amapthetic about the whole thing I cannot progress more than 30 mins. ME:A on the other hand I am enjoying, I think it started really well with the first main planet that has very much a sci-fi horror (almost event horizon like) feel to it... Unfortunately, it hasn't managed to keep this up and has been a bit less interesting but am pretty sure I will see it through to completion, maybe not 100% but who knows? I think a lot of the criticism of ME:A is perhaps unfair, despite its flaws I am finding it solid and the core combat and gameplay is good indeed.

I think you could expect more content, but I don't know about too short. My current playthroigh halfway through main story and half way through dlc is currently 33 hours. My problem is the amount of content.... An awful lot of that playtime was walking from one objective to the other. Monarch, the main planet, is a complete slog tbh. With not enough going on. Walk to one person, get told to talk to another person. You walk there and nothing happens in between!... Game would be so much better with a simple vehicle like a Far Cry buggy and a jet booster like Mass Effect Andromeda. Would improve the game 10fold imo.

Also, the DLC I'm finding very Bioshock-esque. It's an obvious influence

Finished Peril on Gorgon. 10 hours. Still 2 side quests on there. Overall a big improvement on the base game in terms of story, atmosphere and quest design. Things that I would say are disappointing are no new weapon variations or skills, A
And if you didn't like the simplicity of the combat there is nothing new here. It's even all the same enemies!

If the base game were 7/10.Peril on Gorgon is a 9. I found it a lot of fun

I think I still have the choice between this or Borderlands 3 from when I bought my 3600X back in like March
Already owned BL3 and already played this. If it hasn't expired I may redeem it, even though this game ****** me off by suddenly ending right as I was about to execute my master plan of taking control of the corpos and destroying them from inside. Instead "literally Rick" had a ******* hissy fit because I let him get captured even though I was gonna bust him out

but I don't know about too short
Ehhhh, companion quests aside because I played a solo build, I finished literally every quest in about 15 hours play

So without me reading the whole thread, is this game good? i dont mind that its short as will probably end up completing it then lol but is story and gameplay good? thats all that really matters to me at this time

Thanks

I've just started a new playthrough with the new DLC and it's definitely worth buying. If you're on Game Pass it's a no brainer. It's not perfect, the combat is quite basic like Fallout 4 but the story, writing and characters are well written and acted. To the game length, you could blast through it very quickly but if you take your time and really take the world in and explore what it has to offer I would say 35+ hours easy. With the DLC even more. For a first run through, you're in for a treat.

There are reviews online that go through everything. The usual Angry Joe, Skill Up and ACG are usually pretty trust worthy.

It's good. It's not great.

Reminds me of Borderlands more than Fallout. But more RPG, and not up to the same standard of gunplay.

If you like this type of game and can get it cheap or have Game Pass, then it's definitely worth a go.

I'm loving this so far. Taking my time, exploring, collecting stuff. The choices and options to develop your charatcer become more apparent as you progress the the combat is way beter than I expected. Good stuff.

I've found a bug that's stopped me from playing this after an hour or so! I can't enter the Office Of Creative Incubation as the device to read the eyeball next to the door doesn't exist. I've checked Youtube and even the surroundings are different - I've posted to the support forums. Here it is with example photographs, and any opinions from anyone here would be really helpful, thanks.

Just finished this on my XSX.

Quite enjoyed it. Couldn’t get into it on PC, but auto HDR added a fair bit to the visuals. Felt a little like Fallout in space (and a bit of borderlands) and it had some fun dialogue and ideas. It does end a little abruptly, but I thought it was just about the right length. It has some excellent RPG elements and decisions. It’s setup a sequel quite nicely too which is happily play.

Bit of a thread revival but I got this in the Christmas sales on Epic and on the whole I am enjoying the game although the Normal difficulty setting is far too easy. As I have been playing it more and more I have run into a problem that I can't figure out. Everything was fine for the first few hours of play but then the time taken to go from the last of the title/credit screens (AMD/Ryzen/Radeon) to loading the game (ship flying through space) has gotten longer and longer and is now up to around 4 minutes and still increasing. I have searched the net and found nobody having this exact problem so I am struggling to remedy it. I only have Samsung Evo NVME drives in my pc, both of which have no problems. I have no problems with any other games and my spec is in my siggy apart from my Dell 27" 2560x1440 144hz Gsync screen. Has anybody else come across this problem and if so did you get it sorted or put up with it?

Maybe run in windowed mode and keep an eye on task manager performance tab?

got a chuckle out of me reading hat thread so thanks

Most overrated game of the last few years imo
I keep wanting to try it but then I keep seeing people saying it's a bit woke social justice warrior kinda game.

is that true?

When I play an RPG I Want evil mean dialogue options, I want to be the bad guy I don't need preachy crap.

I want to be able to beat a woman

it's not an RPG if your forced in to being some fairy god mother, oh learn the errors of your ways bad boy...

I want to be the opposite of real life... it's just a game
