The Pascal GTX 1070 Owners Thread

Quick question, people. I notice there is a Jetstream and a Super Jetstream version of the Palit card (the latter with higher clocks) Is it likely the standard one will clock to the same sort of level as the Super?

I've gotten the Palit Gamerock (non-OC version) stable at 2100mhz core clock (no throttling, temps stayed at an amazing 60-64c under full load 60%~ fan speed), memory would cause artifacting if above +460mhz though.

Should give you a good idea, someone correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure Gamerock and Jetstream are identical minus the cooler aesthetic (same heatsinks afaik).

Can't decide to upgrade to MSI 1070 from my 970...anyone gone 970 to 1070 and game at 1440p? good difference?

I didn't game much on a 970 but I have one here that I used a bit - the 970 doesn't really suffer for performance in most cases at 1440p but it is a fair boost - from what I recall performance is mostly up around +70% or so possibly a bit more in some cases. In areas I remember getting around say 80fps with the 970 I can easily get 120+fps now.

£450 for the MSI 1070 is too much in my opinion. Wait and grab a 1070 for around £350 (Gibbo had one for sale not so long ago at that price) or even better hold out for Vega which will be a better upgrade with HBM2. I will likely get Vega myself unless AMD price it silly.

1070 is a very nice card though. Love this Zotac AMP Extreme. My only gripe with it is Zotac not setting a proper fan profile for it in the BIOS and I have to have afterburner running to do it for me. Not that that is a big deal.

IMO 1070 is probably the perfect card right now for 1440p and would last you many years at that resolution.

There is definitely a big jump in performance but I'd advise you to look around for a good price. I think I overpaid a bit for my MSI and it bugs me slightly. I got a nice, decently clocking unit without coil whine or other issues but still. The cheager you get one, the better the price-perf ratio.

Palit Jetstream cards seem to be held in very high regard and are also nicely priced.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, damn mobile:/

am looking to spend a good chunk of cash on a new card, how does this one compare to the other 1070 please?

I have this card. It is excellent but it is also huge. Ensure you can fit it. I also think I have the lowest reported GPU Boost for this card! Haven't seen anyone who gets lower than 1962 on the clocks for the Amp Extreme, which is what I get. Still rapid though and plays everything real well ultra 1440p.

So... kinda like I suspected... I am loving my card, yet feel disappointed at the same time.

Everything just runs so smoothly. Top settings, not a problem. I look at it though and notice all the little glitches, and wonder why it doesn't look better for this level of card lol.

When you have a card that you are pushing hard on a budget, you appreciate the performance you can squeeze out of it. When you have a card that is kick ass to start with... you start to become annoyed with the games themselves, and why it doesn't look better etc.

Oh man.. think I must be in the minority with the psycho babble lol.

I agree to be honest. Just whacking all the settings up to max is rather tedious for me. There's a certain joy in fiddling with sliders to find that sweet spot where you can get the minimum framerate you desire, finding that perfect balance between visual compromise and performance on a lesser card.

Yep. I enjoy this also. I get to happily game at 4K this way with a 1070 doing this vs the guys who are gaming on a much lower resolutions who feel the need to upgrade from a 980Ti to a 1080 or from a 1080 to a Titan X Pascal :p

Best part is I still end up with better graphics vs the guy who has a Titan X Pascal and games at 1440p :D

Two cards I wanted seems to have problems.... EVGA FTW + This.

As an owner of an MSI Gaming X should I be concerned about this? I've not noticed any issues so far but I am a little worried...

What are the TDP setting limits you have on your cards? I noticed mine seems low at 112.

I am wondering if flashing the bios to to the OC version would allow this to be higher.

Mine is 120, but it makes no difference anyway, as I never get close to reaching TDP on mine, so I always leave it on 100.

Without touching power limit or voltage my Zotac AMP Extreme can do 2050MHz Core and 9200MHz memory comfortably from what I have seen so far.

It only needs +87 OC to get 2050MHz core. It starts at 2101MHz, but as the GPU heats up it slowly drops to 2050MHz by the time it reaches 60c. I does spend a lot of time on 2063MHz before finally stabilising in on 2050MHz though :)

Basically this card under water would do 2100MHz easily with only +87 to core if under water.

They don't mention the OC armor versions, and I've not had any artifacting on mine (apart from the driver bug that nvidia put out a hot fix for). Lets hope it's just a few GPUs not an MSI board design issue. Isn't the OC armor basically the same PCB as the GamingX but with less power and VRMS?
