The Pascal GTX 1080 Ti Owners Thread

My card also starts whining at 100fps which is too low IMO and the frame rate I like to play at. Have you tried loosening the block to see if that helps? I have read that it can sometimes make a difference. Also are both your gpus doing it or is it just one?

Both my cards unfortunately. Have fitted the backplates quite loose and also fitted new blocks as my original ones were quite warped which has made a difference.

But as stated with foam, cards sound fine. If you can't remedy the issue or get card back with the same issue then it's certainly worth a try.

I can hear the coil whine on my MSI Gaming X in the next room, anywhere between 60-100 frames. Really disappointed with it. Beautiful, silent card otherwise but it's got to go.

Well it gets worse the higher the fps, sure. I tend to shoot for 60-100 though since my screen is 100 hz.

Actually it seems proportional to the GPU usage percentage. Which unfortunately is always near 100% at 3440x1440 for me.

Oh dear, I am not going to hold up much hope for this replacement card if both of your cards have got the whine issue. I am wondering if Nvidia cheaped out on caps for these cards?

Can you post a pic of your foam mod?

Not trying to rub it in, but my fe water cooled is dead quite (can't hear anything and I'm an audophile) but i only got 100hz monitor, forgive my ignorance but i heard PSU can effect.

Well that's good news, I am pleased to hear that as it gives me hope. I have OCD when it comes to pc noise and have spent loads of time and cash getting my setup as quiet as possible.
Like you I have a 100Hz display, we probably have the same one. At 100Hz it is noticeable on full load over that and it gets really loud and yes I have already checked to see if its the psu and the noise is coming from the card. Plus I have had a custom bios 980ti and a GTX 780 running in this setup over the last few weeks and no coil whine, its definitely the card.

I've swapped my 1070 back in for now and the whine has stopped. Any chance it could still be the PSU at fault if the 1080 Ti draws more power at load or something?

why classified? when 1080 classified did nothing for OC (from kaaps exp)

Well i bought a 780 ti classified
then upgraded to 980 ti classified
so might as well buy 1080 ti classified :) plus it mean hopefully i can use the same waterblock.think the 1080 classifed had no voltage control at all thats why they were really poor investment.
if not may well be tempted either a watercooled gigabyte aurous or hof depending if anyone make blocks for them
