****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Could it be a two-stage strategy? Bring out the Slim first at full retail price so that the "must-have-new-gadget" brigade get it and then as that novelty wanes near the Christmas shopping season in November, whack the price down to £249 or something.

I agree with this, end of the day they need to get rid of the PHAT stock as the SLIM is essentially it's replacement, once the stock is adequately depleted then drop the price of the SLIM.

I reckon the Pro is gone. In the Uk it seems annoying that Arcade has gone up in price, but I bet the Elite will drop from it's £229 RRP to £199 or something.

So it could be PhatS3 against Elite (pricewise).

Anyone know what time is this conference? I am sure some people said it was 2pm, but someone else said it is same time as the PSN downtime. 6pm.

Engadget say 6PM CET, so that's 5pm here.

Relax guys

2 Pre Gamescon Press Conferences Today/Tonight
The actual show doesnt open today.

Electronic Arts
Tuesday, 18 August 2009
4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. (UK 1 hr before)

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m (UK 1 hr before)

Anyone got legit video stream links?
Eurogamer/Kotaku are doing live blogs i believe.

My guess PS3 Slim £250 (this has to become the cheaper option not more expensive)
Retailers may decide to try and sell Slim in only package deals with new AAA games just like original PS3 launch.

Its likely retaillers will get discount/credits on phat stock to clear in bundle deals.

There are no video links, I think. Only live text at websites such as Eurogamer. The conference is then going to be available to watch in Home later.

If a new slim PS3 is cheaper than the original phat one, why would you be tempted to buy a phat one

I think at first the slim will be the same price as the phat one for now and when stocks are sold out of the phat one the slim will drop to that pricepoint.

Its much cheaper to manufacture, Microsoft will counter with a reduced price too. If they want PS3 to really start selling its time to get the prices down.

Retailers could, not saying they will but could sell the limited stock of slims that may come only in bundles. They want good profits that although offer good value to customers cost much more than the RRP of the console.

As for the phat one that can be cleared off with more games/controllers thrown in to give better value as not everyone will want/care about slim.
Even if they introduce slim at £299 instead of £250 will it make much of a difference to sales? Images have been leaked as shown on some German sites of $299 slims

Is that live streaming do you know? :)

That should be interesting. its a while since I have been "home!"

Bear in mind

a) Home does NOT have the capability to do any sort of Live streaming.

b) Last time they said they would encode the videos (E3?) and show them in Home. People stood in the presentation podium for something like 12-24 hours waiting IIRC.

This time they said the videos will be there 2 hours later. I suppose people may persevere and wait longer this time as this is the only way (I know of) to see video of the presentation.

The room where you can watch the videos with the big screen is already open (opened last Thursday).

@rp2000

I wouldn't even log in until I know for sure that the videos are up, and if they appear on the PSN I'll just download em from there. Home isn't the draw for me, just wanna see what happened :P

You guys awake ? 299 Dollars !!!

<I'm a geek :(>

It could be £250, but if the follow the old conversion rate that was $399, E299 and £200 then it could be better for us.
Anyway the date of release now looks like its the 24 August!!! Perhaps thats for date of pre-orders though?

Dont forget we usually get screwed here in the UK...$299 probably equal (or close to) £299 :(
