Yeah, that's true. No idea why it's cut out, but you can't install Linux on the slim.
There's no way to tell for sure until it comes out. It's almost certainly going to be quieter than the current PS3's, I'm sure they'll have optimized the design a bit more, and used a less noisy fan. It all depends just how much heat the slim puts out, but I don't think the full speed will be quieter than the low speed on the current one. I'd like to be wrong though

Hmm, I noticed someone mentioning about the PS3 Phat... so they are completely stopping production of those and the PS3 Slim will be the only one will be produced?

Not a fan of its look to be honest, looks a bit cheap and nasty. That said the lower heat production and power consumption is certainly welcome. If my old phat ever blows up I'll be switching over; if not I really don't see anything to make me want to.

The new slim is different, it looks more like PS2 style material with a texture. As others have said, if I need a new PS3 i'll get a slim but theres no reason for current owners to rush and buy one.

250GB model submitted to FCC same time as the 120GB so surely that will be out in the not too distant future?

I don't see why people are complaining about the slim design. The phat ps3 looks atrocious in this pic. Slim just looks sleeker.

It's not though it's smaller in width and height, the 60GB PlayStation 3 console is approximately 325 mm (W) × 98 mm (H) × 274 (L) mm and the slim is Approx. 290 × 65 × 290 mm. So the fat is 35mm wider 33mm higher, but the slim is 16mm longer.
