You can but personally I wouldn't be confident doing so, apparently there is an official stand being released for $24's, I'm not sure what the GBP equivalent will be though, hopefully no more than £14.99.

I'm buying one because it runs cooler and quieter, and it's going in an AV rack anyway so the looks aren't important :)

In a 19" rack with several other AV components, (including hot AV receivers) each degree of heat can be the difference between stability and equipment failures or error. I want that piece of mind and I believe going from 90nm on the launch PS3 -> 45nm on the slim will give me piece of mind.

I probably wouldn't update if I had a 65nm model.

Also, it's worth baring in mind that 10dB is seen as an actual perceived difference so when using multiple devices at once (again, in the rack) then it will help to keep the racket to a minimum. Not that it matters as much as heat, but it all helps :)

Slim ps3, uncharted 2, modern warfare 2 and then gt5 and gow3. £249 for the best specced machine on the market and also the console with the best line up in 2010.


No doubt ... must be purchased.
 
Yeah, I am probably going to get one. £300 was too much for me as a second console (360 will always be primary and all cross platform games will be bought for that for the sole reason of the controller).

Not straight away though. I see all retailers are offering it for £250 with no games. I'll wait till Christmas or after for a package that has at least one game I want. If I have to wait for GT5 then that's what I'll do ;)

I will be getting one as I don't currently have a PS3, but two things I will be doing first are:

1. Waiting for GT5 so I can buy them in a bundle and:
2. Buying the vertical stand.
